Chrisley Knows Best alum Julie Chrisley might be looking at leaving prison sooner than she originally thought. That’s because she’s probably a nice lady despite her crimes and she could get a break. Todd Chrisley has been running his mouth since he walked into jail and Savannah Chrisley seems to have inherited his inability to stay cool under pressure.
But we don’t hear about Julie because she’s doing her time and seemingly not complaining. Savannah, who parrots her Daddy’s complaints on social media and then moans and groans about the backlash recently revealed Julie could be considered for early release. Now Savannah shares some potentially good news about her mom.
Light at the end of the prison tunnel for Jules?
The Chrisley attorney, who seems to be more of a PR guy, showed up on Savannah’s Unlocked podcast. Apparently “Julie is a different situation” than Todd, she’s also not making a nuisance of herself.
There’s an upcoming appeal in April and regardless of whether or not it goes in favor of the couple, Julie is expected to be re-sentenced because of “errors” in her original conviction.
“If she is re-sentenced in the summer or the fall of next year, I think her sentence should be substantially reduced,” the lawyer said. What this might mean is, if Julie gets a three-year sentence she might be released “some time next year.”
“That’s not out of the question. And I think the hard part when you talk to clients and talk to families about things like that is, that is an option on a spectrum of options. And so you don’t want to give people false hope. You want to be realistic, that is certainly an option,” the attorney added.
A bill called the First Step Act might also come into play. It was signed into law in 2018 and is a criminal justice reform bill which encourages rehabilitation of those who have been convicted. Additionally, it tries to reduce prison sentences deemed excessive.
“Again, we don’t know whether the judge would actually apply it in a way to reduce her sentence. We think it should if the judge would have followed the guidelines. And that could happen, you know, this year, early next year,” he concluded.
Julie’s original sentence for allegedly evading federal taxes was seven years and has already been reduced by 14 months. Her current release date is October 19, 2028.
