The mama-bear in Bethenny Frankel was definitely triggered when Luann de Lesseps questioned her reasons for leaving the Halloween night performance early. Of course, the show was running a half hour late, but regardless. The Countess delivered somewhat of an apology but the other Real Housewives of New York, including Bethenny, are questioning the sincerity of it.
It’s a bit ironic to be questioning Bethenny’s parenting given Luann’s legal issues with her own grown children. And many seasons ago, Luann’s son Noel de Lesseps was begging her to spend more time with him. That was back when she was really a Countess, but just as self-absorbed.
Luann is still stumped about the whole thing. During the episode, she commented, “I don’t think I said any negative thing about Bryn. It wasn’t about Bryn. It was about you’re going home from the party, and she’s sleeping, and what is the point? It wasn’t about Bryn. I wasn’t being nasty to Bryn. It was basically a comment about, it’s Halloween night, where are you going?”
Luann delivered an apology accessorized with a giant statement necklace of Countess ego. In an interview for the Real Housewives of New York After Show, the cast weighs in on Luann’s words to Bethenny.
Tinsley Mortimer gave her input, “I’m sorry you missed my performance. That’s her apology? She has a difficult time being very self-aware.”

Tinsley’s mom Dale Mercer agreed, “it’s just Luann. Luann is Luann. She’s not mean or malicious really. She’s clueless of the world around her. It’s Luann’s world and we’re all living in it is what it is.”
Dorinda Medley may have more insight given her recent feuds with Luann. She said, “Luann never just apologies. She’s a real ‘yeah but.’
You know? I’m sorry, but. I shouldn’t have done that, but. She’s a real ‘yeah but.’ Luann doesn’t really feel the need to ever acknowledge or apologize for things. She lacks self-awareness. And Luann has a magic way of turning truly lemons into lemonades.”
So the apology wasn’t sincere then? Dorinda continued, “the truth is, she doesn’t hold herself accountable to the standards that the rest of us hold ourselves accountable, or she holds us to. So no I don’t think Luann likes to acknowledge anything negative.”

Dorinda’s words may have hit home a bit. Luann said, “it’s really upsetting to hear someday like Dorinda, who says that she loves me and who is a friend, to say something as negative as, ‘I’ve never had to apologize for anything in life’ that’s not true. And I certainly did apologize when I got arrested. That’s for sure.” The Countess doth protest too much.
Sonja Morgan points out the patterns in Luann’s behavior. She explained, “it’s the same thing when she was going to marry Tom [D’Agostino] no matter what. She doesn’t want to see the flaw or the cracks. So whatever you tell her, you’re not going to get an apology that reflects on HER actions. So it gets to a point where she just can’t have herself look bad.”
And we’ve come full circle back to Luann. She is still questioning what provoked Bethenny. She said, “Bethenny’s trying very hard to make a case for herself. And she’s pulling every fish out of her fishing net in order to prove her point and validate what she’s saying. Why?”
