Gretchen Rossi has been open about the years-long struggle she and fiancé Slade Smiley have had with infertility, including undergoing rounds of IVF treatments. Happily, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star announced she and Slade were expecting a baby last December. Since then, Gretchen has posted many baby bump shots on Instagram, including some from a gender reveal party in February. At the party, Gretchen and Slade announced they are expecting a baby girl, who is due in July.
One would imagine that this is a very exciting and busy time for Gretchen and Slade as having a baby changes every aspect of your life. One of the most enjoyable things to do while expecting for many couples is picking out a baby name. And Gretchen and Slade have chosen to honor his son Grayson Smiley in the naming of their new baby.
A Page Six article revealed the details of the baby name that Gretchen and Slade recently shared. In an interview with Access, they revealed that they will name her Skylar Gray.
Gretchen said, “When it came to the middle name, we really wanted to have a family tie in. [Grayson] has been this angel on earth, and he is just this unbreakable, amazing, little man.” Grayson, as long-time OC viewers know, has been battling brain cancer since 2006 and he even appeared on camera a time or two on past episodes of RHOC.
Honoring Grayson by using his name as part of his soon-to-be-born sister’s name is very touching. It is a thoughtful way to include him in the whole process. And you have to admit, the name Skylar Gray has a nice ring to it!

In the interview, Gretchen also revealed that the difficulty in the road to having a baby did not end once she and Slade had a viable embryo. Gretchen shared, “What a lot of people don’t know about our embryo, and now our Skylar Gray, is that she actually self-corrected herself in the embryonic state. She went from two cells to five cells, and normally when it goes from two cells to five cells it’s not a genetically sound embryo…but she literally pushed that cell aside and went back to four and self-corrected herself.”
Biology was never one of my academic strong suits, but the whole thing sounds pretty amazing. The journey to a baby has been long and challenging for Gretchen and Slade and it is exciting that their dream of adding to their family is finally coming true. Here’s to a happy and healthy last few months of pregnancy for the couple!
