It was tough watching Dorinda Medley slur her words during that last episode of Real Housewives of New York. Usually when Dorinda turns up it is endearing and hilarious. This time it just wasn’t a good look for her to be wasted at a dinner with Bethenny Frankel’s charity partners on a trip to aid in disaster relief.
Hold up though. There’s actually a lot more to the story according to Dorinda. The viewers are wondering why Dorinda would drink so much before such an important dinner. It just doesn’t make sense and that is because she actually had no idea that dinner was on the agenda. Bethenny didn’t tell Dorinda about it until after they enjoyed some happy hour drinks. Did she innocently forget to tell Dorinda about the trip’s agenda? Or was Dorinda set up for a story line?
Dorinda opens up about what we didn’t see during that last episode in a Bravo blog post. She explained, “I go to Miami with my pal Bethenny. For reasons that become more obvious to me later, she has invited me to tag along on a trip to deliver cash cards to those in need in Puerto Rico. I’m excited for the journey and to help my friend. We work hard all day getting ready for the trip the following morning. To unwind, we have a few drinks, then a few more. We’ve done this together too many times to count!!”
Dorinda continued, “Then as I settle in my hotel room to binge-watch my favorite show, Law & Order, order room service, and get a good night’s sleep as we had a 6am wakeup call, my phone rings. Oh no! I am meant to be downstairs in five for a dinner. Dinner? With who? Bethenny’s charity partner? Nooooo!!!!!” Why wouldn’t Bethenny give Dorinda a heads up about the dinner? Did she just know that drunk Dorinda would make for good TV and get her charitable endeavors even more screen time? Or did she just “happen to forget”?
Dorinda wondered, “Why am I just being told this important information?” She explained, “I would have opted out of Bethenny’s happy hour early. But here we are…I am exhausted, and yes already feeling the effects of our happy hour festivities, and yes I should have listened to my inner intoxicated voice and went to bed so I’d be fresh for our morning mission. But I am not one to disappoint, so I put on my Pucci and head downstairs. And….well, the rest is burnt onto the corneas of all the viewers. Yikes. Okay, it wasn’t my best, or worst, that’s for sure! But for better or worse, I was trying to find common ground with people I had just met.” If only she knew about the dinner ahead of time…
Dorinda recapped, “Naturally, Bethenny calls me a drunk.” Then she wrote, “Is she really compassionate or is this just another TV moment? We’ve all seen it before —her absolute glee while waiting for one of us to make a misstep, then she pulls out her P-Touch label maker: whore, drunk, nit-wit, loser. Cue the hug.”
Dorinda wondered, “Does everyone notice that Bethenny not-so-subtly puts people down to make herself look bigger, better, smarter? I often wonder how that is working for her.” Not very well. Maybe Bethenny will sit on a couch alone at the Season 10 reunion.

Tonight is an all new episode of The Real Housewives of New York – kicking off at 9/8c! “Bethenny and Dorinda hit the ground in Puerto Rico and get to work. Ramona attempts to mend fences with Sonja. Carole works on a revealing story with a magazine, while Luann starts to plan a special performance. Bethenny lets Dorinda in on an incident involving Carole’s ex, Adam. Carole confronts Bethenny about an accusation she’s made that puts Ramona in the middle of their friendship.”
