Mary Cosby’s brave decision to openly talk about her son, Robert Cosby Jr’s addiction struggles has touched Bravo viewers deeply. When Mary first entered the Bravosphere, she seemed aloof and cold, probably because of her dislike of Jen Shah. But Season 5 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has given fans a whole new Mary. The preacher seems kinder and more relatable than ever before. While she never imagined she would be talking about her family issues on reality TV, Mary is making the most of her platform while admitting she often gets emotional over her son.
Mary Cosby is her son’s champion
According to Mary’s recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Robert Jr came out of rehab as a “new person,” and the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star couldn’t be happier. While speaking with Andy Cohen, Mary revealed, “Rob is doing so good.” While holding back the tears, she added, “I am so proud of him, so proud of him.” The 52-year-old revealed that her 21-year-old son stayed at the drug treatment center for 30 days and successfully completed his rehabilitation program. Mary commended her son, noting, “He did an excellent job. He came out a new person.”
Naturally, Andy asked the fashionista about her emotional conversation that was caught by Bravo cameras. Last week, the mother and son had a frank chat about Robert’s addiction. At the time, he admitted to his mother that he had been using since the age of 16. Mary surprised fans by sharing that the conversation “wasn’t planned.” As Mary started to cry, she added, “We just came together, Robert and I, and I said, ‘We’re going to do this because we’re going to help someone.’” Andy could see his friend was struggling and made sure to take Mary’s hand as he reassured her that she “did great.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Wednesday on Bravo.
