Hulu’s series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives blends religion, friendship, and relationship drama into one big cup of dirty soda. The hit series follows a group of Mormon moms who also happen to be influencers. While Taylor Frankie Paul may have started the group #MomTok, she also shattered it when she revealed a secret. She shared that she and her husband, Tate Paul, were involved in “soft swinging.” And that she and Tate were getting a divorce. Then Taylor shared that some members of #MomTok were also involved. The resulting fallout from the scandal deeply affected all of the women.
The series picked up months after Taylor’s big reveal. So, the women, who are the breadwinners for their families, tried to put #MomTok back together. However, there was one couple on the show that caused quite a stir. Jen Affleck is married to Zac Affleck, and the couple share a young daughter and son. Jen supported their family while Zac pursued medical school. However, trouble in their marriage was exposed, leading to questions about the stability of their marriage.
All of this drama put Jen in the spotlight during the first season. So, let’s look at why Jen Affleck needs to be part of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2.
Jen Affleck is an integral part of the Saints and Sinners’ dynamic
Jen and Zac are the most devout Mormons in the group. The #MomTok crew is divided into two groups, dubbed the Saints and the Sinners. The Saints are Jen, Whitney, Mayci Neeley, and Mikayla Matthews.
Then, there are the Mormons who don’t follow every rule. Taylor, Demi Engemann, Layla Taylor, and Jessi Ngatikaura fall into the Sinner camp. Part of what makes this show so interesting is how the ladies follow their religion while still navigating friendships with people who don’t follow all the rules. It is fascinating how their different beliefs collide.
When Jen and Zac were having a baby blessing for their youngest child, Jen had to uninvite Demi and Jessi. Allegedly, Zac wasn’t comfortable having so many people that he didn’t know at such an important event for their son. So, Whitney, Mayci, and Mikayla attended the event, and the Sinners hit up the bowling alley.
Plus, the fact that Zac is making all the decisions for Jen is an issue that the ladies addressed during their girls’ trip to Las Vegas. Well, make that girls’ trip with two significant others thrown into the mix.
We need to know how her marriage to Zac Affleck is doing
During the ladies’ trip to Las Vegas, Taylor was pregnant. Her boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, wanted to come with them, so Zac tagged along, too. However, when Jessi surprised all the ladies with a Chippendales show, Jen was horrified. Both Zac and Dakota were angry, so Taylor and Jen went back to their rental before the show started.
Then, Zac started to rage-text Jen. “Start taking accountability for your actions and for the situations you put yourself in. Your [sic] a grown woman, it doesn’t matter your intentions,” Zac reportedly wrote. “You were there, and that’s the image you portray of yourself, family, church, etc.” Meanwhile, during all this drama, Zac was busy gambling, which is also frowned upon by the Mormon Church. WOW.
While Jen begged to come and talk to him, he refused and even threatened divorce. Finally, he told her that he would meet with her, but she had to come immediately. So, Jen booked an Uber at 2 a.m. Such a gentleman!
Well, it was clear that Demi isn’t a Zac fan. She read Jen and Zac’s text thread. Then the next morning, she filled in the other ladies and slammed Zac as “the biggest narcissist.” She added, “He’s trying to come off as if he’s this alpha and he’s coming across as the biggest baby b*tch right now.”
Naturally, Jen met up that night with her co-stars and told them that everything was fine. But the ladies told her that the way that she was being treated wasn’t okay. Later, Jen explained that their marriage was “great” and shared that they had undergone “nonstop therapy” since the show ended. Of course, fans want to see if Zac has changed the way that he treats his wife. Fingers crossed that he had an epiphany.
Zac’s questionable familial ties to Ben Affleck
During an episode of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Jen shared how Zac is related to Hollywood superstar Ben Affleck and his brother, actor Casey Affleck. Zac’s father, David Affleck, is supposedly Ben and Casey’s cousin.
In a TikTok from 2022, Jen poked fun at their connection with Ben. She posted the video around the time that Ben married Jennifer Lopez. “When you thought you were going to be the next JLO. But instead … she stole your name & you’re busting it down to Ms. Rachel,” Jen wrote across the video, in which she danced to Wheels on the Bus. I love her sense of humor!
Well, now it seems that Ben is not related to Zac’s family at all. Oopsy! Genealogy is an important part of the Mormon faith, so making a mistake about this connection doesn’t track.
A source claimed that “there’s no relationship” between Zac’s father and Ben. In addition, Zac’s family comes from England, while Casey and Ben’s relatives are from Scotland.
So, fans want to know why Zac and Jen haven’t addressed this issue yet. The source stated, “This isn’t their cup of tea. I would imagine, knowing them that they’re just hoping this will all die down.” This is another reason we need Jen, and Zac in Season 2 to explain this mix-up.
The signs Jen might not return for The Real Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2
There are a lot of troubling signs that point to Jen possibly not being involved in Season 2 of the show. US Weekly reported that Zac and Jen sold their Orem, Utah home. During the Season 1 finale, Jen and Zac checked out New York City, where he had been accepted to medical school. She also posted a TikTok from Zac’s graduation, announcing that they were moving.
More troubling still is Jen quitting #MomTok. During a scene from the show, Jen expressed how much she loved #MomTok and how important it was to her. Apparently, Zac didn’t agree, because Jen called Jessi to tell her that she was quitting.
“Jen told me that she’s leaving #MomTok because of Zac,” Jessi told Demi. “He doesn’t want her associated with us. I am really sad that this is just a continuous pattern that’s not getting better.” None of the ladies appreciated Zac’s misogynistic attitude.
So, if Jen and Zac are living in New York City, how would she film the show? According to PEOPLE, Jen and Zac are allegedly filming the second season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Of course, we don’t know the logistics of how that will work.
I’m thrilled that Jen will reportedly be part of the show moving forward. What I would love to see is Jen standing up for herself and staying in #MomTok. With so much drama swirling around her, Jen needs to be part of Season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming on Hulu.
