On Bravo’s Summer House After Show, cast members weighed in on Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard’s tumultuous relationship.
The first two weekends in the Hamptons, Carl and Lindsay had huge fights in which she questioned his sobriety. So to break the cycle of the “Friday Night Fights,” Carl decided on the third weekend to just skip Friday and come out on Saturday morning.
Gabby Prescod and Lindsay wonder whether Carl should have just “confronted the issue head-on” rather than deciding to avoid Friday night. Lindsay reveals that they “never had that conversation.” Carl decided to go to New Jersey to see his mom, while Lindsay went to the Hamptons.
Avoiding the problem
“The first two weekends, I’m sober,” Carl shares, “and I have my fiancé accusing me of being on something. So I didn’t come out the third weekend.”
Gabby is confused by Carl’s choice to remove himself from the situation rather than “talking things through.” Has Gabby met Lindsay and Carl? There’s no “talking things through.” They only scream at each other.
Meanwhile, West Wilson thinks, “That’s f*cking crazy.”
“Yeah,” Jesse Solomon agrees. “Like, you’re gonna try to spend less time with your fiancé? I mean, it was thinking outside the box, but probably not a good strategy for somebody you’re going to spend the rest of your life with.”
Gabby straight-up calls Carl’s behavior an “avoidance tactic to the nth degree. How do you think that once you say yes to marriage, that’s — how is that gonna go?”
“I love an innovative man,” Paige DeSorbo adds.
“It’s not about Friday,” insists Ciara Miller. “Like, am I stupid? It’s about … one’s drinking and one’s not.” There you go. Give that woman a prize for hitting the nail squarely on the head.
“One’s drinking, and one’s not”
“The combination of someone sober and someone who drinks heavily, who is pretty outspoken,” West observes, “I wouldn’t sign up for that. I think they fight … But Lindsay wakes up. She was drunk, doesn’t feel like that big of a deal, wants to move on. [But] Carl, sober, [remembers and] internalizes everything. He’s got a cloud all over him the next day. Lindsay acting like it didn’t happen only makes him more upset.”
Jesse noticed how Carl and Lindsay would have a huge fight but wouldn’t talk about it for a full day. At the time, he wondered, “Are they gonna squash their beef or what? Then they’d, like, sit on a towel on the beach … and, like, talk about their problems.”
“On that beach,” Kyle Cooke adds, “there was zero apology, accountability or responsibility from Lindsay.”
“You get convinced so much of your behavior,” Carl says, “that you believe it. I was convinced that I did something wrong that night because she was so adamant that I did something wrong.”
“I’ll look back on this and know that I really … tried everything I could,” Carl adds. “I tried to be patient, understanding, gracious. I sleep really well at night … because I really feel like I … tried my best to … make things work.”
Summer House continues Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
