Was there a secret smokers’ alliance that we didn’t see on Season 2 of The Traitors? According to Sandra Diaz-Twine, the smokers in the group would use their smoke breaks to gossip about gameplay strategy. Part of that clique included Kate Chastain, but she took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and shot down Sandra’s claims.
Smoke and mirrors on The Traitors
Anyone who has ever taken a smoke break knows that the best gossip happens in the smoker’s section. Even if you’re not a smoker, you can expect to spark some colorful conversation. Sandra saw that happening and assumed the worst. She said that Kate, Mercedes “MJ” Javid, Chris “CT” Tamburello, and Trishelle Cannatella were all a part of the clique.
Since the foursome of smokers were ultimately the ones who kicked Sandra out of the game at the last minute, it makes sense that she’s scrambling for an explanation. Sandra advised that the Season 3 cast should vote out the smokers first.
In response, Kate claimed that there wasn’t any truth to her theory about a secret alliance of smokers. She clapped back at Sandra on social media.
Kate wrote, “First of all, I mostly vape [sassy emoji] Second of all, the smokers always had a producer chaperoning them and their mics turned on so production could make sure they didn’t talk game.”
For a reality TV vet like Sandra, you’d think she would be more aware of the steps producers take to protect the authenticity of the game. On most sets, contestants aren’t allowed to just run amok and strategize in secret. Everything has to be on-camera or the producers risk missing important storylines.
Regardless, Sandra did not back down from her conspiracy theory about a smoker’s alliance. She said she would swear on it. It sounds like someone who just isn’t willing to accept the fact that they finally lost a game show.
Sandra said, “Get me a bible, I will put my hand on it.”
Meanwhile, Kate clarified that there was no bad blood between her and Sandra. The game is in the past. The Below Deck alum just couldn’t resist setting the record straight.
“I absolutely love Sandra,” Kate shared. “I’m just saying the people that smoked didn’t have an advantage.”
