90 Day: The Single Life Season 4 is several episodes in, and fans aren’t necessarily loving the new season. The show is one of the many spin-offs of the popular show 90 Day Fiancé, which chronicles the journeys of Americans bringing their international partner to the United States on a K-1 Visa. As the visa stipulates, the couple has 90 days to get married, or the foreign partner has to return to their country.
Most couples on the OG 90 Day Fiancé series make it to the altar. However, not all of the marriages last. The Single Life follows former 90 Day Fiancé cast members’ lives after their relationships fail. On the spin-off the cast members continue to find love in various countries all over the world. Sounds messy? You bet! There are several reasons that The Single Life is the messiest spin-off of 90 Day Fiancé. We spill the tea below.
It Strays From the Franchise’s Original Premise
Fans were drawn into 90 Day Fiancé because it showed international couples overcoming cultural differences to make their love work. Now that’s interesting! In doing so, viewers were able to see different cultural marriage customs as well as learn more about different parts of the world. However, many 90 Day: The Single Life cast members are American, dating other Americans, which deviates from the reason that people watch the franchise in the first place.
Without the aspect of dealing with the K-1 visa, it’s basically a show chronicling people going on dates. Of course, TLC does what it can to spice it up—with messy results!
The Single Life Frequently Involves Cast Members’ Exes
The Single Life frequently brings in exes of the “main” cast members from previous seasons and chronicles their journeys dating other people. For example, fans were shocked when The Single Life Seasons 1 and 2 featured Jesse Meester—the ex-boyfriend of Darcey Silva—dating Jeniffer Tarazona! Jeniffer, of course, is the ex of Tim Malcolm, who famously planned to propose to Jeniffer with the engagement ring he had given to his previous ex Veronica Rodriguez. We know that was a wild ride, are you still with us?
As if that wasn’t messy enough, 90 Day: The Single Life Season 4 features both Tim and Veronica on their separate dating journeys. The two are best friends as well as exes, so they are shown hanging out together and co-parenting, as well as each dating other people. And as if that wasn’t messy enough, Veronica is dating Jamal Menzies, who is the son of Kim Menzies from 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days. Honestly, we’re saying it’s messy, but we absolutely love the little 90 Day universe and all its overlapping. Bring on the mess!
It’s More R-Rated Than Usual
90 Day: The Last Resort might officially take the cake for the most R-rated spin-off, since it had cast members simulating Kama Sutra sex acts with blow-up dolls and including an in-depth look at cast members using a remote-controlled vibrator! TLC leaves little to the imagination! However, The Last Resort is definitely not the first time that viewers were treated to Kama Sutra presentations from 90 Day Fiancé stars.
In 90 Day: The Single Life Seasons 1 and 2, fans saw Jeniffer and Jesse simulating Kama Sutra acts in a scene that went on for a much longer time than expected. Not only were the acts simulated, but also discussed at length and in-depth. Thanks TLC! It definitely makes for memorable viewing.
One thing is for sure, Kama Sutra and vibrators are a far cry from the wholesome first few season of the original 90 Day Fiancé show. The franchise once simply followed couples who were just trying to make their love work, despite being continents away. Instead of sexy time, the seasons were filled with family and kid-related tribulations. They still are, with some added elements! We complain about the “TMI” factor sometimes, but also, let’s be honest. It’s part of what keeps us coming back for more.
