Basketball Wives star Brittish Williams is making some last-ditch efforts to try and stay out of the clink. For those who aren’t in the know, Brittish was sentenced to four years in federal prison for alleged tax, bank, and insurance fraud.
If the sentence on its own wasn’t enough, she was also ordered to pay $564,000 in restitution. Despite the severity of these consequences, Brittish has been granted several concessions. For example, her initial date to report to prison was pushed back by three weeks.
The check-in date was changed from December 11 to January 3 so that the star could spend Christmas with her daughter. Brittish decided to push her luck by filing a motion to reduce her sentence. She then decided she wouldn’t wait in prison for an answer to her motion.
Brittish Williams dodges prison and gets arrested
As per court records obtained by Radar Online, Brittish was supposed to turn herself in on January 3. Instead, she asked to reduce her sentence to just 2.6 years. Reportedly, Brittish claimed she was “unable to report as ordered,” but must’ve refused to elaborate.
She further argued, as a matter of convenience for the courts, that her surrender date should be postponed until a decision was made on her motion. Brittish’s motion was denied as four years was deemed appropriate. Prosecutors argued, “even if Williams did qualify for a potential reduction, the Government would oppose relief because she failed to report to the Bureau of Prisons as directed.”
Moreover, Brittish “already received a more than generous disposition by way of the dismissal of counts carrying six years of consecutive mandatory minimums at the time of the original sentencing.” Brittish could’ve been serving up to 10 years in prison, so, she should’ve counted herself lucky.
On January 12, she was arrested. The details of the arrest are still unclear, and The Federal Bureau of Prisons does not list Brittish as an inmate. On January 16, her lawyer filed a motion to continue a bond revocation hearing given her arrest. No decision has been made on the motion.
