In Part 2 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Reunion, Monica Garcia admitted that her mom, Linda Darnell, really wanted to be on the show.
“When I applied [for] the show,” Monica said, “I did my final interview. The first place I went was to my mom’s.” Monica thought she’d messed up her audition and was crying that she’d bombed, when Linda said, “Let’s say a prayer. And then she prayed that she would get it instead. She literally said, ‘Lord, if it’s not Monica, let it be me.’”
After saying he felt “really bad” for the single mom after hearing her story, Andy Cohen confessed, “I believe every moment.” Speaking on his SiriusXM show Radio Andy, he added, “I believe that with every fiber of my being … my heart went out to Monica. I was, like, that is rough.”
Please, God, “let it be me”
Even though Lisa Barlow thought Linda was “lovely and charming” when she met her at Angie Katsanevas’ Easter brunch, Heather Gay and Whitney Rose felt differently. They both felt like Linda was somehow trying to “impress” them.
“She sat down at the table, and it felt like she wanted to be in Monica’s shoes,” Whitney observed.
Andy felt the same way. “For someone who left their 12-year-old to go pursue a career in television, do we think her mom was kind of auditioning to be a housewife?” he said at the reunion.
Life with Linda has always been tough. As Andy mentioned, Linda left young Monica with strangers in an attempt to have a television career in New York. “The only thing I can count on with my mom is that there’s nothing to count on with my mom,” Monica said.
Linda actually said of her only child, “I hate your f*cking guts, you f*cking bitch.” She doesn’t seem to care how much she hurts her daughter. It’s such an unhealthy relationship. What kind of a mother calls her own daughter a “motherf*cker?” That’s just crazy.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 4 Reunion concludes Tuesday, January 23 @ 8/7c on Bravo.
