Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough has kept fans up to date on his wife Hayley Erbert’s condition. In December, Hayley was rushed to the hospital. “She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy,” Derek shared.
Hayley had another surgery on December 20, 2023 “to replace a large portion of her skull,” Derek said. The surgery was successful, but Hayley has a long recovery ahead.
The couple received some welcome good news when Derek nabbed his fourth Emmy. Deadline has the scoop.
Derek dedicates his Emmy to Hayley
Derek won the award at the Creative Arts Emmys. He received the Emmy for Outstanding Choreography for the piece Higher by singer Michael Buble. Derek was emotional as he accepted the award.
“Exactly a month ago I was in the hospital,” he stated. “This is a different moment. A life-changing moment reminded me to really savor each [and] every moment.”
He continued, “What a stark contrast this has been. I just flew in from Washington, DC, last night.” And Derek paid tribute to Hayley during his acceptance speech. He dedicated the award to “my beautiful wife. Your strength and your courage this whole month has been unbelievable. You inspire me every day.”
Hayley shared a message about Derek
“Congratulations to the love of my life for his 4th Emmy win!” Hayley wrote via Instagram. She added, “(Swipe to see him looking so handsome with his new, beautiful hardware). What a way to be welcomed home after such an unfathomable month.”
And Hayley wasn’t done praising her husband yet. She applauded his “drive, brilliance, and commitment to excellence.” All of Derek’s Emmys are a testament to that.
“I have loved being able to witness and be apart [sic] of your journey this far and cannot wait to see what else the future holds. I love you more than anything and am so unbelievably proud of you, today and always,” Hayley wrote.
