On Christmas Eve, Sister Wives fans will get a little something extra in their Christmas stockings. In a Sister Wives Look Back: How It Started special, the wives discuss a turning point in their marriage to Kody Brown. Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn revisit the moment that changed their lives forever.
We’re talking about the wedding dress saga when Kody married Robyn, his fourth plural wife. When his other wives discovered that Kody had gone with Robyn to choose her wedding dress, it didn’t sit well. “Robyn and I went and looked at dresses, and she picked one out,” Kody confessed. “I was like, ‘Holy cow.’ It’s like I’d seen it in my dreams, you know?”
Christine recalled that when they had their spiritual wedding, Kody didn’t “care at all” what kind of dress she wore. Meri and Janelle agreed that sharing that moment was “not cool” and a “slap in the face” to them. People has all the the details.
The moment everything changed
In the lead-up to the wedding, the three wives took their soon-to-be sister wife Robyn shopping for a wedding dress. But they had no idea that Kody wanted his own input and had taken his intended shopping also. Just another incidence of Kody being a controlling asshat.
“I wasn’t even really emotionally involved with any of the dresses,” Janelle explained. “Then all of a sudden, it was this thing we had all done together — like the women — and then here’s Kody saying, ‘Oh well, it wasn’t really for real.’ It was really quite funny ’cause [Kody was] so excited.”
“It wasn’t funny,” Christine added. “[We] looked like [idiots].”
“It wasn’t funny to me either,” Robyn interjected. “It was actually something that I had to ask him, you know, not to share with anybody for the sake of sort of protecting both experiences. I didn’t feel it was necessary for you guys to know that.”
A ‘hard day’ for Christine
“Meri made her dress,” Kody recalled. “Janelle didn’t wear a wedding dress … And Christine was just throwing together a wedding, and I was living a long way away from her … My involvement in [choosing Robyn’s dress] incited some kind of jealousy in Christine that was irrational.” He still fails to see the insensitivity of it and continues to rationalize being a douche canoe. And he wonders why they all left him.
Christine remembers it as “a hard day” and notes it was “the day when I realized, ‘Ah, he is way more in love with Robyn than he was with me when we got married.'” Let’s remember that Christine had recently given birth to Truely. It should have been a happy time for her. Instead, her husband was taking another wife. She probably felt cast aside. That must have been really hard for her.
On the other hand, Robyn doesn’t feel she and Kody did anything wrong (’cause she’s an asshat, too). While Kody may have helped her choose the dress, she was the one who decided what to wear to their wedding.
Though he acknowledges that Christine was “upset,” Kody believes that “the problem with the whole experience that I had with Christine was I didn’t really want to be married to her.” Then why did you have six children with her? She was good enough to make all those babies with, but he didn’t want her to be his wife? No wonder his adult children despise him. He’s really a terrible human being.
