Since the start of his run on The Golden Bachelor, the man himself, Gerry Turner, has been learning the price of fame. Having so many eyes fixed on a person will inevitably lead to rumors and revelations.
On November 29, The Hollywood Reporter put out an exposé on Gerry, claiming the narrative shown to viewers on The Golden Bachelor was far from true. Along with questions about his dating history, some of the more damning claims against Gerry came in the form of his work experience.
ABC introduced viewers to Gerry as a former restauranteur who retired at 55. However, THR found that Gerry’s LinkedIn profile didn’t match that narrative, showing him working in the meat industry after selling his old restaurant. Now, Gerry has responded to these perceived inconsistencies.
What exactly was Gerry’s career after his restaurant?
In an interview with Katie Couric Media, Gerry gave his response to the article’s claims about his work history. “The business I owned was very much like the Cadillac Diner that Theresa and I went to on the very first date,” he explained. “I sold burgers and fries and shakes, and it was a very profitable business.”
He went on, “And the comments about what I did later in life, I did those after I retired. I retired at 55, and I was very happy giving back to the community and doing things that were worth something to other people. I mean, jeez, I didn’t work as a handyman for the money.” He actually “did it because I knew I was doing something good for people who needed help.”
As for the article itself, Gerry said, “There’s just enough truth in [the article]. But I have so many positives to think about that I haven’t really given that article a whole lot of thought.” Sure enough, Gerry has some important milestones ahead, with little time to think about exposés.
Gerry will get married live on ABC in January 2024, on The Golden Wedding.
