In early 2023, Tom Girardi was indicted for alleged wire fraud. He was accused of embezzling up to $15 million from 2010 to 2020. From the very start of his indictment, concerns arose as to Tom’s health, and whether he would be competent enough to stand trial.
Erika Jayne also got dragged into the controversy, being sued for $25 million that Tom’s company allegedly spent on her bills. However, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star pled ignorance of any of Tom’s business dealings.
Tom’s brother Robert has had a conservatorship over Tom since 2021 due to his health. Robert claimed Tom had been diagnosed with dementia and late-onset Alzheimer’s. As such, Tom’s lawyers argued that Tom wouldn’t be able to stand trial, but the judge over the case disagreed. Now, there’s an update on Tom’s health.
Tom receives upgraded care in assisted living home
RadarOnline obtained court documents discussing Tom’s health status. His lawyers aimed to claim once again that Tom was not competent to stand trial. According to Tom’s attorneys, employees at his senior living facility updated Tom to Care Level 2. As part of his updated care, Tom would require “supervision.”
The employees allegedly further explained that although Tom is “able to maintain [a] façade of being oriented, memory deficits are seen over time.” Tom’s legal team also said Tom “requires stand-by assistance for all showering/bathing needs” (thoughts and prayers for those who have to take care of that).
While Tom reportedly has maintained the ability to walk around the facility, workers noted that he needed reminders to change clothes. Moreover, he has not had a fall in the last year. The filing further read, “Resident prefers to be alone choosing not to socialize during meals and returning to [his] apartment during activities. Minimal staff time is required to change this pattern.”
Meanwhile, Erika stars in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
