Why Below Deck Med Season 8 Is Swimming, Not Sinking

Bravo/YouTube

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8 has received a mix of reactions so far. While some fans are not impressed, others are loving the drama and chaos of the season. We agree with the latter! While Season 8 has not been perfect, it has been one of the more enjoyable Below Deck Med seasons overall. Thanks to these plot lines and cast members, Below Deck Med Season 8 has been a fun ride so far!

Tumi Is An Amazing Chief Stew

Chief Stew Tumi Mhlongo has been one of the more enjoyable cast members on Season 8. Tumi really takes her job seriously, which is nice to see. Despite a rough start with former 3rd Stew Natalya Scudder, Tumi has worked hard to prove that she deserves her Chief Stew role.

Tumi has already come a long way on Season 8, such as being able to settle the majority of her differences with Natalya. Furthermore, Tumi has been a great leader for the interior team, and also has good relationships with stews Kyle Viljoen and Jessika Asai. It’s nice to watch someone do something that they’re passionate about, we hope to see Tumi as Chief Stew again soon!

Despite Being Problematic, Kyle Is Fun To Watch

There, we said it. There is no question that Kyle has been one of the more problematic cast members on Season 8, but he is also part of what has made the season great. People like Kyle make amazing reality television since they thrive on the drama that makes it so intriguing in the first place.

Whenever Kyle is onscreen, you just can’t help but pay attention to what he’s up to. One of his most iconic moments of Season 8 so far was his dramatic fainting episode, he really had us worried for a second! Despite his drama, Kyle is a great 2nd stew and the guests love him. While we agree with Captain Sandy Yawn that Kyle is not exactly Chief Stew material, he definitely is a fun addition to the show.

The Love Triangles Are Getting Interesting

Bravo/YouTube

In the usual Below Deck fashion, Below Deck Med Season 8 has already featured several complicated love triangles. Bosun Luka Brunton and Natalya were one of the first flirts of the season, despite Natalya’s open relationship. The two hit it off, and seemed to really enjoy one another’s company until Natalya went home.

Later on, Luka began a fling with 4th Stew Jessika, who instantly fell for him. It quickly became evident that Jessika liked Luka more than he liked her, which made fans feel for the 4th Stew. The mid-season trailer teases further drama for Jess and Luka, when it is revealed that Luka has been talking to other women. Furthermore, Jess does not look happy when Natalya returns, to Luka’s enjoyment.

After getting her own heart broken, Jess appears to interfere with other relationships onboard. Deckhand Max Salvador had eyes for new stew Lily Davison as soon as she arrived, and it was obvious. However, the mid-season trailer foreshadows Jess kissing Max, and later apologizing to Lily for it. The love triangles this season are really getting messy, and we are here for it!

The Deck Team This Season Is Outstanding

(Lara Du Preez/Instagram)

The deck team has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of Below Deck Med Season 8, as their teamwork is admirable! From the get-go, Lara Du Preez was a standout star who employed an amazing work ethic. Luka noticed her hard work from the jump and awarded Lara the Lead Deckhand position, which was nice to see.

Deckhand Haleigh Gorman has also been fun to watch, especially when she took charter guests on a diving excursion. Haleigh explained that she had a lot of prior experience with diving, so she really knew what she was doing!

In addition to their skill set, it is nice to see the bond that the entire deck team has this season. Despite Max taking a while to get the hang of things, the other deck team members were patient with him. The four crew members now get along great, unlike their fellow interior team!
