TW: This article contains content involving pregnancy loss
Today we’re all going to take a moment and send gentle thoughts to Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick. To be quite frank, the Vanderpump Rules alum is an icon of the show and never too far from the thoughts of longtime fans. Has she been problematic, yes – can the same thing be said for the entire cast – also yes.
Back in 2021 Pump Rules viewers might recall the baby wave that took over much of the female cast. There was a “pregnancy pact” and it saw several of the core ladies begin adding to their families.
Kristen was not involved in that particular journey and instead decided to wait until she was in a stable relationship and financially better off. Now that Kristen has a steady income and a steady man it was time to pull the baby trigger – but as we all know, sometimes our best plans take a hard left turn.
A difficult story for Kristen to share
In June 2022 Kristen met Luke and the couple hit it off after attending the same wedding. It seems like Kristen might have finally found her match and now they host a fairly successful podcast together.
It can’t be easy, watching most of your friend group getting married and having babies – but Kristen had been through rough times before and toed the line. Now she’s going through a very different rough time and spoke about it on an episode of Sex, Love, and What Else Matters with Luke.
Just last month in October, Kristen discovered she was pregnant. “It was the best f* day of my life,” she began. Kristen hightailed it to Colorado, where Luke resides to bask in the good news. Prior to making the trip back to LA, Kristen was having “some light bleeding” and it concerned her.
While some bleeding during pregnancy is normal, it’s not the type of thing an expectant mom wants to see. Kristen shared, “When I bled a little bit, I was just, of course, thinking the worst things in the entire planet, right? The worst case scenarios.”
She went ahead and scheduled a doc appointment to have some blood work done and the results said her “progesterone was a little low.” Kristen’s physician gave her an Rx for progesterone to keep the pregnancy going.
Kristen’s choices
Ultimately Kristen had about three ultrasounds and the third one unfortunately showed things were not going to stick. Luke said, “It’s considered a blighted ovum. There is no embryo in the sac that’s forming.” At that point, Kristen knew there would be some choices to make.
Luke continued, “Nothing has happened yet. The three choices are a D and C [dilation and curettage], which is a surgical removal. Option two is to wait and see, just for it to happen naturally because your body will eventually reject it.”
The third option is medicine “that will intervene and help induce the miscarriage.”
While this is difficult news and certainly heartbreaking for the couple, they aren’t going to stop trying.
