Welcome to week 4 of Dancing with the Stars! We celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company this week. I’m sure that Disney 100 Night will be a highlight of the season.
Last week, model Tyson Beckford and his partner, Jenna Johnson, were sent packing.
The opening number, set to the song We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto, was amazing. Hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro strutted their stuff. Judge Bruno Tonioli even had a moment as, well, Bruno. At the end, he exclaimed, “I love it!”
Shout out to choreographer Christopher Scott. I love his work.
Let’s get into the recap!
Mauricio Umansky and Emma Slater
Paso Doble to The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia.
Mauricio Umansky and Emma Slater prepared a Paso Doble. Please don’t wink at Emma with your tongue out, Mauricio.
He seems to have improved. Judge Derek Hough called the routine “fantastic.” Carrie Ann Inaba called his performance “amazing.”
Mauricio scored 19 out of 30 points. Emma and Mauricio seemed disappointed. Once again, Mauricio’s estranged wife, Kyle Richards from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, wasn’t in the ballroom.
Side note: I love Julianne’s gown.
Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko
Waltz to A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Cinderella.
Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino and her partner Gleb Savchenko danced a gorgeous and elegant waltz. I’m a fan.
Bruno told Mira to “trust herself.” Carrie Ann told her she gave off “queen energy.” Poor Mira possibly has a sprained or fractured wrist.
Mira earned 21 out of 30 points.
Barry Williams and Peta Murgatroyd
Jazz to He’s a Tramp from Lady and the Tramp.
Actor Barry Williams and his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, danced a jazz routine. Barry is familiar with this style of dance. He auditioned for Bob Fosse and performed on Broadway.
Yikes. A lift went wrong. Carrie Ann said it was his “best dance so far” but called out the errors. Derek praised how Barry kept going.
Barry scored 18 out of 30 points.
Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach
Foxtrot to A Whole New World from Aladdin.
Singer Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach danced an Aladdin-themed foxtrot. This is Jason’s first ballroom dance.
Derek called it “a whole new Jason.” Bruno liked his “regal attitude.”
Jason received 24 out of 30 points.
Lele Pons and Brandon Armstrong
Rumba to Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King.
Social media star and singer Lele Pons took on a rumba with partner Brandon Armstrong. Instead of being steamy, the routine was romantic.
Carrie Ann commended her for taking last week’s feedback seriously. And there was a dreaded lift. Poor Derek didn’t have time to give any feedback.
Lele earned 22 out of 30 points.
Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber
Jazz to Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast.
Actress Alyson Hannigan and her partner Sasha Farber danced a jazz routine. Selma Blair, who danced with Sasha last season, came to rehearsal and shared her opinion.
Carrie Ann mentioned that Alyson was off-tempo a bit. Derek called out a lack of content in the routine. Alyson was also in a restrictive costume as a candlestick.
Alyson scored 18 out of 30 points.
Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold
Quickstep to You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story.
Too Hot to Handle star Harry Jowsey and pro Rylee Arnold prepared a quickstep. Harry dedicated the dance to his best friend, who passed away after tragically taking his own life. And Rylee shared that she is best friends with Harry now. Or maybe more? Do we have a showmance?
Once again, Rylee carried the routine. Derek “really, really loved the dance.” Bruno called out Harry’s musicality.
Harry earned 21 out of 30 points. Harry became emotional, stating that his friend must have watched his performance.
Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy
Paso Doble to Un Poco Loco from Coco.
Actress Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy danced a fiery Paso Doble. Carrie Ann loved how Xochitl used her “power.” Derek called her “an artist.”
Xochitl received 27 out of 30 points.
Adrian Peterson and Britt Stewart
Viennese Waltz to Baby Mine from Dumbo.
NFL player Adrian Peterson and his partner Britt Stewart prepared a Viennese Waltz. Special musical guest Chloe Flower played a limited edition piano.
Carrie Ann called it “pure” and “truly beautiful.” Derek gave a standing ovation. Bruno said that Adrian “has found his wings and taken flight.”
Adrian scored 21 out of 30 points.
Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov
Contemporary to Into the Unknown from Frozen II.
Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov prepared a contemporary routine. Fun fact: Ariana used to work at Walt Disney World when she was a theater major. A real Disney princess in the house!
Derek called the performance “sensational.” Bruno loved Ariana’s determination. But Carrie Ann wanted to see more freedom of movement.
Ariana earned 25 out of 30 points.
Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev
Waltz to Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid.
The Bachelorette star Charity Lawson and her partner Artem Chigvintsev danced an elegant waltz. Bruno complimented Charity’s dancing while in hold. Derek said it was “so beautiful and so graceful.”
Charity scored 24 out of 30 points.
DWTS remembered Season 20 contestant Suzanne Somers, who passed away over the weekend. That is so sad.
The leaderboard
Xochitl and Val topped the leaderboard with 27 points, followed by Ariana and Pasha with 25 points. Barry and Peta and Alyson and Sasha were tied at the bottom with 18 points.
The final three
While not necessarily the bottom three, two of these couples are safe:
- Lele and Brandon
- Adrian and Britt
- Barry and Peta
Going home this week on Dancing with the Stars
Adrian and Britt were eliminated from the competition.
Next week, viewers will be treated to an emotional tribute to Len Goodman, featuring many returning pros, including Maks Chmerkovskiy, Karina Smirnoff, and Mark Ballas.
Dancing with the Stars continues on Tuesdays on ABC and Disney+.
