Real Housewives Of Miami Star Mama Elsa Dies At 84 After “Long Illness”

The Real Housewives of Miami franchise never caught fire. So the show only lasted three seasons before Bravo gave it the ax.  The breakout star of all three was arguably Elsa Patton aka Mama Elsa. Mama Elsa, 84, was the psychic, delightfully wacky and surgically manhandled mother of cast member Marysol Patton.

Mama Elsa was so compelling on Real Housewives of Miami that it was rumored that she was getting her own spin-off. There was hope because Andy Cohen made it no secret how much he loved her. It never came to pass and now it never will.  An article in Page Six confirmed Mama Elsa’s death. In an exclusive statement provided to Page Six, the Patton family said “Our beloved Elsa Patton (aka Mama Elsa) passed away over Mother’s Day weekend after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family and close friends.”

The announcement mentioned that Mama Elsa was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Donald Patton. He passed away last February of 2018. Her husband didn’t figure prominently on RHOM. But after Mama Elsa suffered a stroke in 2013, Marysol reported in a blog post that her parents reconciled. “My parents were in the middle of a heated separation and divorce over the past years, and it took the tragedy of mom’s health to bring them closer together. The one decent thing that came out of mom’s crisis was it brought my parents closer together.”

The family’s statement continued “She is survived by her two children, Marysol Patton and Thomas Anthony Jones, her daughter in law Svetlana, and her grandson Hunter. The family is so very grateful to the many fans and friends who have continued to ask for her and offer their prayers and best wishes.”

“They thank the community, her caretakers, and the many friends who have continued to check in on Elsa from all over the world. Their support has meant the world to the family. A private ceremony will take place in Miami,” the family stated. “In lieu of tears the family asks you to raise a glass of good champagne in honor of Elsa’s memory.” Services will take place Friday in Miami.

Let’s remember to join them in raising a glass on Friday for one of the kookiest characters Bravo has ever brought to our screens.
