Last season on the Real Housewives of Potomac, Karen Huger held a “press conference” and introduced the reality TV world to Matt Byars. Her costars didn’t know what to make of his presence there or in what capacity he worked for Karen. Matt seems to be a jack-of-all-trades functioning as Karen’s “assistant,” “part of her management team,” her “attorney,” and her “everything.”
Gizelle Bryant summed up her costars bewilderment. She said, “I have absolutely no idea who this person is sitting next to me.” Well, finally Gizelle and costars Monique Samuels, Robyn Dixon, Ashley Darby,Candiace Dillard, and viewers at large will get an answer.
Karen spoke to The Daily Dish about guiding Matt in his youth. She said, “I’ve known Matt since he was about 17, 18 years old. I encourage Matt when life is difficult.”
Apparently Karen has a reputation for being a local mentor. “A lot of people call me ‘Mama Karen’ in Potomac because I love helping young folk,” she said, “When life was trying to him, I reached out and told him to go to school, and he did, and now we work together.”
And now, the moment of clarity. What does Matt actually do? Here’s what Karen had to say, “Matt is wonderful, wonderful in PR. I do have a PR, Matt is not my PR, but I would say that Matt is in a line of my agent, my booking person, and it works for me.”

Karen continued to praise Matt’s networking ability. She said, “I met some dynamic people through this powerful young man, who’s extremely connected. And my personality and his connections just works so well, and I’m blessed to have Matt in my life. Oh my god, he’s with everyone! And I love that. He’s a bubbly person and, again, a very successful young man and powerfully connected.”
A quick scan of Matt’s Instagram certainly confirms this statement. He can be seen posing with plenty of Bravo celebrities like Cynthia Bailey, Joe Gorga, Melissa Gorga, Vicki Gunvalson, and Sonja Morgan.

Karen certainly notices who she keep in her circle. “I don’t mess with peons,” she said, “Matt’s a good guy and us together, two powerhouses together, we make great tings happen off-screen, in family and personal life, and we also make things happen fantastic on-screen, as you noticed. We’re good.”
