Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for transparency and honesty, but I think Kendra Wilkinson may be going overboard…just a tad. The former Playboy bunny who rose to fame as one of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends on Girls Next Door and went on to star in her own spin-offs which followed her marriage to football player Hank Baskett, III…and the ensuing scandal that almost broke up the couple (which prompted a trip to Marriage Bootcamp).
The tabloids had a field day when Hank was exposed for cheating on his wife, who was pregnant with the pair’s second child, during a drug fueled affair with a transgender model. After some very public ups and downs, Kendra is determined to stand by her husband and be open about the situation with their two children, six-year-old Hank, IV and two year old daughter Alijah. Wait, what? Yes, you read that correctly. Kendra is explaining all about daddy’s uh ohs and boo-boos to two kids who should be allowed to discover this drama the old fashioned way…by accidentally coming across it while surfing on the Internet at least a decade from now…you know, just like how all other reality stars’ kids learn about their parents’ sordid pasts! But that Kendra, she’s a free spirit, and she wants an open dialogue. Is is just me or should an open dialogue with kids this age be more about the tooth fairy and less about their father’s infidelities. Call me old-fashioned…

People has a breakdown of Kendra’s recent interview with Khloe Kardashian on her talk show Kocktails with Khloe. I guess those two girls may have a few things in common. Of her decision to include her children in the discussion surrounding her marriage, Kendra explains, “We’re trying to obviously beat all this to the punch and just teach our kids who we are and show them love and show them happy parents and be as open as we can.”
Kendra shares, “You know, I’m a free spirit: I walk around naked – they’re going to eventually run across [me],” adding, “So I’m going to teach free spirit stuff to my kids. I want to make sure they know that like, you know, ‘To each their own.’ If they’re not harming someone, if you’re not doing any harm to yourself, be the person that you want to be, do what you want to do and be true to yourself.”
It’s been almost two years since Hank’s affair, and Kendra believes that they are growing and learning from the experience. She reveals that it’s provided some teachable moments for her kids, stating, “As people being on earth, we have a job to help each other, care for each other. If someone needs your help, you better stick it out with them.”
I was feeling pretty cynical there for a spell, but when you put it in the context that Kendra has, not hiding their issues from the kids could actually work for them in the future. Or the family will extend their fifteen minutes with a special therapy based show courtesy of Dr. Jenn…
