While Lifetime is in peril with some of its other kid-centered shows, the network is going in a different direction with the popular Project Runway franchise!
The network just announced filming for Project Runway Junior. Featuring competitors aged 14-17, Project Runway Junior will follow the same format as its predecessor in an effort to highlight the “next generation” of great fashion designers. The show begins filming in New York City this summer and will air on the network this fall. Heidi Klum was the inspiration behind the new junior spinoff due to the fashions of her own kids.

Tim Gunn will co-host the show, alongside model Hannah Davis, and joining the judges panel is Christian Siriano, the season 4 winner who has gone on to have major success in the fashion industry and was only 22-years-old when he won Project Runway. The other judges will be Aya Kanai, a fashion editor at Cosmo and Seventeen Magazine, so you can expect the winner will land a spread or internship of some sort with Seventeen!
And returning to Lifetime is the fifth round of Project Runway All Stars… seriously, at this point, there’s as many ‘all stars’ editions as there are regular ‘Runways’.
Variety reports that season 5 will debut early next year and will feature Alyssa Milano, fashion icon famed for her forward-seeking haute couture (#sarcasm), as the host. Returning to the judges panel are veteran reality star Isaac Mizrahi (who paved the way for fashion reality TV with his own mid-nineties fashion documentary, UnZipped – which is amazing), Georgina Chapman, and mentor Zanna Roberts. No word on who is being cast, but the show is currently filming.
And of course regular ol’ Project Runway will return on August 6 for its 14th season. Returning are Tim, Heidi, Nina Garcia, and Zac Posen.
