Today is a big day for Girls Next Door alum Holly Madison with the release of her tell-all Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny. Hugh Hefner’s ex and the former Holly’s World star has written a memoir detailing her time in the iconic Playboy mansion, as well as her relationship with Hef himself. She’s already piqued the public’s curiosity with tales of Hef offering her drugs and her less than friendly relationship with co-star Kendra Wilkinson.
While Holly stole many hearts as the sweet and ditzy Playmate vying for Hef’s affections (and bed) on Girls Next Door, her book paints a less rosy picture of what went on behind closed doors. Not surprisingly, not everyone (I’m looking at you, Hef!) is on board with her recollections of her Playboy mansion past. As Holly hopes for a successful book toured topped off with a potential movie adaptation, Hef is defending himself against some of her accusations.

Speaking to E!, Holly shares that she’s already got grand plans to bring her book to the small screen, revealing, “We’re looking at some options right now. I think everybody’s dream would be to do the big motion picture, but I think even a really well made TV movie would be great, too.”
In fact, Holly already has some opinions on who should be cast to play her. She tell tells the site, “I would pick somebody young because they’d have to be playing me when I started at 21. I’d pick Emma Watson or Lily James. Lily James is my favorite.” The centerfold turned reality star turned author also wouldn’t be opposed to a run on Broadway, joking, “It could totally be Legally Blonde meets Gypsy. That would be so fun.”
Holly hopes that her story will encourage people not to define her based solely on her bunny persona. She explains, “It’s been difficult when people remember you for one thing because that’s all they can think of. I’ve been working really hard for several years to start from scratch and be myself. I’m not complaining because good comes with it too, but…you have to remind people that reality TV isn’t always 100 percent real and that was a phase in my life awhile back. It’s not who I am now or what I’m about.”
According to Us Weekly, Hugh Hefner, the patriarch of the Playboy, isn’t keen on his ex-bunny/girlfriend’s recollection of her time in the mansion. Claiming emotional and verbal abuse by the “manipulator” she alleges “pit” the bunnies against each other, Holly doesn’t feel compelled to reach out to Hef. She recalls, “I realized I wasn’t treated well,” adding, “I’m done being afraid of people. I don’t have any loyalty to Hef. I haven’t talked to him in four years, so there’s no reason to reach out now. Besides, it’s the truth.”
Hef disagrees, asserting, “Over the course of my life I’ve had more than my fair share of romantic relationships with wonderful women. Many moved on to live happy, healthy, and productive lives, and I’m pleased to say remain dear friends today,” lamenting, “Sadly, there are a few who have chosen to rewrite history in an attempt to stay in the spotlight. I guess, as the old saying goes: You can’t win ’em all!””
