If you've been watching anything on MTV, chances are you've seen previews for it's new reality show Buckwild. It's like Jersey Shore, but with rednecks…and a lot of dangerous looking antics. I think it would make Honey Boo Boo proud.
Remember when Italian Americans and the citizens of New Jersey had such an issue with our favorite GTLers? Well, West Virginians and Southerners are feeling the same way about Buckwild. I have to say though that all of this controversy is making me want to watch the insanity…even though, as a Southerner, I should be totally offended.

Joe Manchin, a senator from West Virginia, has sent a letter to the president of MTV asking him to not air the show. According to Radar Online, Senator Manchin feels like the show perpetuates stereotypes about the state which are very inaccurate. He goes on to call the show "repulsive," citing "shameful behavior" that will "profit off the poor decisions of [WV’s] youth."
He writes, "As a proud West Virginian, I am writing to formally request that you put a stop to the travesty called Buckwild. Instead of showcasing the beauty of our people and our state, you preyed on young people, coaxed them into displaying shameful behavior, and now you are profiting from it. That is just wrong."
MTV, of course, thinks the show is fun, and not "a train wreck" as it follows a group of daredevils who have just graduated from high school and love to squirrel hunt, mud race, and shoot things. Sounds safe!
The network is keeping quiet on the controversy, and I have a feeling that Buckwild will enjoy the same hype that the Jersey Shore gang had in the beginning. When multiple groups loudly boycotted our guidettes and juiceheads, many people tuned in just to see what all the fuss was about…do you think Buckwild will fare the same way?
