We’re back with the recap for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11. Last week, Daisy forgot to include rosé in her provision order, which caused a mad scramble to obtain some. Chef Cloyce stepped up his game in the galley, but a communication issue caused a spat between him and Daisy that ended in smiles and awkward giggles. One of the guests was stung by a jellyfish, but Gary’s emergency first aid quickly resolved the problem. Here’s exactly what went down on BDSY Season 5, Episode 11: “Much Ado About Crushing.”

What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11?

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11

In this week’s episode, the crew performs a skit depicting Ronnie’s jellyfish attack in a humorous light, and the ladies LOVE it. The guests go clubbing on their last night in Ibiza, and they’re welcomed back with an early morning pizza breakfast. And deciding that alcohol is not his friend, Gary has a shockingly sober crew night out. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 11.

A little blessing from Saint Carmen

Danni and Diana are decorating the dining area for the birthday dinner. It’s a 50th birthday, so they’re using gold and black streamers. But when the primary comes down and sees what they’re doing, she says, “Oh, no, no, no! No black. I hate gold and black. I’m not dead.”

She doesn’t want any “over the hill” jokes. She even insists they change the placemats from black to white. It’s kind of ironic, because the shirt she’s wearing is actually black.

But before dinner, the guests have requested to go watch the Saint Carmen Festival. Saint Carmen is the patron saint of sailors, apparently.

“So, the ceremony is all about asking her for protection when we venture out on the high seas,” Captain Glenn explains. “I don’t know if I’m a true believer in all that stuff, but why tempt fate? With the jelly fish sting, these ladies need a little blessing from Saint Carmen.”

Gary and Chase ferry the women into the port in one of the tenders. Unlike the last time he drove the tender at night, Gary doesn’t crash on the rocks this time.

Saint Carmen goes by on the front of a ferry boat, but there are so many people on the boat that it’s hard to see the patron saint.

There’s a whole flotilla of boats welcoming Saint Carmen. Ronnie says it’s everyone coming to wish her a happy birthday. Whatever floats your boat, lady.

Cloyce compares his and Daisy’s relationship to a marriage

Preparing for dinner service, Cloyce recalls that he and Daisy had a little communication hiccup the previous night.

“The chief stew and chef relationship is quite a bit like a marriage,” Cloyce interviews. “You have to adapt to each other’s differences and overcome to accomplish whatever mission it is. Happy wife, happy life, as they say.”

“Every time I go into a meal with Cloyce,” Daisy says, “honestly, it’s a bloody rollercoaster. I’m just praying, ‘Please let this be a good meal.’”

After dinner, Daisy had the guys organize a little skit to re-enact the jellyfish attack. They just want to make the ladies laugh and forget how scary and painful it was. Gary stars as Ronnie, while Chase plays the jellyfish.

“There’s a burn and a sting, and her ears begin to ring,” reads Keith. That gets them laughing. They love it! It is a very clever entertainment.

Keith dubs himself, “Dr. Seuss of the Seas, baby!”

Daisy sets an example for Diana

After dinner the ladies go ashore to go clubbing. They want an early morning pizza party when they return.

Daisy’s original plan was to have Diana get up at 5:00 and serve the pizza, then go back to bed. But Diana made such a fuss about it, Daisy decides it’s just too much trouble fighting with her over the early start time. Rather than fight about it, Daisy will get up and serve pizza.

When Daisy tells her to get up at 8:15 in the morning, she asks, “But I thought you said at 5:00 a.m.?”

“Well, if you let me finish the conversation,” Daisy responds, “now I’m going to get up. You made it very clear how you felt about it.”

“Diana has this entitlement, like, ‘Why do I have to do this?’” Daisy interviews. “[Because] that’s your job. I also want to show her that I am willing to do what I ask people to do. That being said, I’m f*cking pissed.”

“This is bullsh*t,” Diana says in her own confessional. “She’s just trying to be a martyr.”

“If you were going to do the job,” a producer asks her, “why did you complain about it in the first place?”

“Even though I was going to do the job,” Diana responds, “it doesn’t make it right. Daisy’s making me feel like she’s doing me this huge favor when she was the one making a mistake [by] making me sleep five hours or less. It’s just stupid. It doesn’t make sense.”

Both Danni and Diana are very immature. How did they even get hired in the first place?

When the guests return to the boat after partying all night, Cloyce has mac and cheese, quesadillas (my personal favorite), nachos, and pizza waiting for them. Yummy!

Gary goes sober for the crew night out

At the tip meeting, Gary turns down the celebratory glass of champagne. He also tells Daisy that he’s “not drinking tonight.”

“So you’re just not going to drink for the rest of the season?” Daisy asks.

“Yeah, pretty much,” he says. “Because every time I drink, I seem to offend people … Alcohol is [not] my friend.”

“I am fully behind this if he is genuinely trying to grow and change,” Daisy interviews, “But I don’t see this lasting very long … Honestly, I’ll be surprised if he even makes it through dinner.”

I think that’s a good idea, especially after he hit Davide in the eye with the lollypop and didn’t even remember what happened. At dinner, when everyone else is ordering alcohol, Gary shocks everyone and orders a “mocktail.”

“I think it’s amazing,” Daisy says. “I’m gonna be your number one supporter.”

But as the night goes on, Gary feels a little out of place. “Being sober around a bunch of drunk people is something I’ve never experienced before,” he interviews. “Everyone’s sloppy. Everyone’s slurring their words. F*ck, normally, I’m probably even worse than these guys are, so I can only imagine.”

Even more impressive, when they return to the boat, rather than going to the jacuzzi with everyone else, Gary goes to bed.

“I know deep down inside,” he says, “I’m a lovable person, and I don’t need alcohol to prove that … I’ve got a problem, and I think I need to learn when to say no or how to stop myself from continuing down this road.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
