When The Simple Life premiered nearly twenty years ago, no one could have predicted how well this series would perform. Watching Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie living a legit simple life, complete with Walmarts, cows, and fishing, had us all laughing in spades. Therefore, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this silly series, these gals decided to give us all another run back to the birthplace of their Season 1 backdrop, Altus, Arkansas. Yet, when Paris and Nicole: The Encore debuted on Peacock, their original host family refused to appear on camera, causing Paris and Nicole to visit them without their cameras in tow.
However, a source recently spoke with Page Six. And if we believe these unnamed heroes, the reasoning behind their refusal makes perfect sense.
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie had to visit the Ledings without their camera crews, as their Simple Life hosts wanted the network to show them the money
Paris and Nicole are beyond wealthy, as is Peacock, the streaming giant that hosted their Encore-inspired return. The Ledings, however, are a typical middle-class family.
But they were also a major part of The Simple Life Season 1. Therefore, their filming refusal on Paris & Nicole: The Encore left many of us scratching our heads.
In Episode 1, Paris and Nicole revealed that they visited the Ledings. Their visit went well, they gushed, noting that this family is doing great. So if there is no bad blood between themselves and their former pint-sized, petulantly pesty houseguests, then why did the Ledings refuse to film alongside them on their latest series?
According to this source, the Ledings know their worth. They decided not to appear on camera unless they received a pretty penny in return. This source revealed that the Ledings were all set to film, but, at the last minute, they reneged on their offer. “They refused to film and tried to demand $1 million from production,” this source claims.
When Page Six reached out, Peacock had no comment. Meanwhile, the reps for Paris and Nicole failed to respond to their inquiries. The same silent treatment act sounded from Albert and Janet Leding and their three sons, Justin, Cayne, and Braxton.
I get their reasonings. This family helped to make The Simple Life great. While $1 million sounds high, this price covers five humans. And these five faces deserve only good things for their troubles.
Paris & Nicole: The Encore is streaming on Peacock.
