So far, one feud stands out as the major Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14 storyline. Kyle Richards‘ formerly close friendship with Dorit Kemsley was already hanging by a thread in Season 13. But this year, it’s blown up into an all-out she said/she said war.
Before the season began, all the back and forth got hard to decipher. But now that we’re a few episodes in, viewers are starting to get an idea of the real reasons why Kyle and Dorit are at each other’s throats. Let’s break down the fundamental issues behind this friendship fallout, and where things currently stand.
Dorit Kemsley thinks Kyle Richards asks too much of their friendship
This season, Dorit is standing up for herself. And she is sick of Kyle holding her friends to a higher standard. She wouldn’t take it when Kyle tried to come for her over a BravoCon game. Which was understandable, because they both laughed about it at the time.
In Dorit’s eyes, Kyle’s infamous Amazon Live comments minimizing their friendship were a retaliation. And not for BravoCon. Instead, Dorit theorized Kyle was mad at her for insinuating Morgan Wade impacted their friendship. And she accused Kyle of trying to silence her with that “manipulative” pre-reunion text.
When Bozoma Saint John asked where things went wrong, Dorit said she genuinely didn’t know what Kyle was so mad about. She accused her frenemy of constantly moving the goalposts, coming up with new reasons and excuses. Regardless, Dorit is done trying to figure her former pal out. When Kyle asked for grace, Dorit yelled, “Grace time is over!”
Kyle Richards thinks Dorit Kemsley is too self-centered
Kyle does seem to throw out different reasons why she’s so mad at Dorit. Frankly, some of the explanations are a little silly. Dorit ranking Kathy as her favorite sister in a BravoCon game was obviously a joke.
But another BravoCon moment seemed like a more legitimate reason. After tearing up over her separation from Mauricio Umansky at a panel, Kyle was hurt to hear Dorit make snarky comments. This was, to her, an example of Dorit’s lack of support. She further accused Dorit of being too self-absorbed to be there for her friends. And described how frustrating it is that she lacks accountability. To be fair, Kyle is far from the first person to label Dorit this way.
When her friends’ separation news broke, Kyle threw a little shade, saying she wouldn’t question things the way Dorit did. Yikes! But Dorit didn’t feel supported by Kyle either. It surely didn’t help that Kyle first texted PK Kemsley about the separation.
Is Kyle and Dorit’s feud really about their respective separations?
Erika Jayne is the go-between in this feud. She’s on both Kyle and Dorit’s sides. And heard both their stories, as they recounted the various comments made on Watch What Happens Live, Amazon Live, and BravoCon. In a recent episode, Erika said, “Kyle and Dorit are both going through separations, and they’re at each other’s throats. While PK and Mo are out having the time of their lives, we’re here fighting…in Encino. Like, how does this happen?”
Could Erika be onto something? Kyle and Dorit are both compartmentalizing amidst their separations. When Dorit announced she was “fed up,” she mentioned her friendship with Kyle and her marriage. Both ladies are desperately trying to keep things as cordial as possible. Kyle insists her divorce won’t get ugly, even after Mo replaced her picture with his Dancing with the Stars partner. Dorit was also in denial, judging by her shock at “single PK” declaring they won’t talk as often anymore. Is it possible the ladies are taking their frustrations with their spouses out on each other?
No matter how many trips they went on together, the two couples appeared thick as thieves. Is it just that dynamics shifted as the respective marriages collapsed? Both women went through significant personal changes in addition to their newly single status. Maybe they just grew apart? Kyle did say Dorit wasn’t acting like herself. Apparently, she doesn’t recognize this new activated version.
Is there any hope for Kyle and Dorit’s friendship?
Kyle surprised a lot of viewers when she said this storyline ends on a hopeful note. Erika also said she foresees a reunion. Despite that optimistic outlook, both of the former friends are still making jabs at one another.
On a recent podcast, Dorit said there’s no way she and Kyle can return to “the friendship that I thought we had, a true friendship, without being totally honest and open.” Dorit isn’t the only one who wants more honesty from Kyle. But Kyle’s been very defensive about this, so that might not help smooth things over.
Based on the Season 14 trailer, it seems their fighting has just begun. We’ll have to keep watching to see how the feud develops.
