Andy Cohen on Pump Rules Cast Reboot News: ‘Very Smart Programming Move’

It’s been barely a week since Bravo announced that they will find an entire new cast for Vanderpump Rules. Former cast members got their official statements out, and perhaps one or more of them is working through the stages of grief.

Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen, for one, is thrilled with the news. And he argued that it was long overdue, because of the lack of actual employment at SUR restaurant.

Andy Cohen pointed out that none of the cast even worked at SUR anymore

Andy made the statement during a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. He called the revamp “the absolute right thing to do.”

He also commended production for making VPR work in recent years “when slowly but surely, none of them were working at SUR.” James Kennedy was the last man standing because of his DJing gigs. But now, with his “residency in Vegas,” even he has moved on.

“Several have very, very organically moved onto The Valley, which makes very perfect sense, and then you have others who don’t want to be in the same room, much less on the same show with each other and that makes sense too, so what you were left with was really just a few pieces of what the original Vanderpump Rules was, so I think this is a very smart programming move,” Andy explained.

Andy praised the former VPR cast for being “very true to themselves”

He compared the move to how Real Housewives of New York fired the prior cast when the situation felt stale.

“Sometimes for a show, it’s the end of the road or it’s time to curve or swerve or pivot and that’s where we were with RHONY and that is what is happening with Vanderpump Rules and I’m so impressed with the gang from Vanderpump Rules,” Andy opined.

The former cast got an honorable mention from Andy. He praised them for remaining “very true to themselves.” And that’s “what made that show so entertaining and surprising season after season.”

But ultimately, it was time to close the chapter. Perhaps Scandoval gave the show an extra breath. Andy called the shocking affair “the swan song” of VPR as we all knew it. According to the executive producer, the finale just felt like a goodbye.

“If you look at the last episode of last season, it really did watch the last ten minutes or five minutes, it felt like an absolute series finale, so congratulations,” Andy concluded.

Vanderpump Rules is currently between seasons.
