Real Housewives of Beverly Hills viewers were shocked when Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky separated. The couple announced their separation in July of 2023. Of course, there were rumors of cheating during their 27-year union. During Season 13, several of Kyle’s co-stars were openly questioning if there was trouble in paradise. However, Kyle denied it repeatedly. Next, hitting the road to Splitsville was Dorit Kemsley and her husband, PK Kemsley.
During Season 13, Dorit was struggling with some issues in her marriage. At the reunion, it seemed like Dorit’s union was back on track. Unfortunately, the duo announced their separation on May 9, 2024.
Sadly, both Kyle and Dorit are grappling with separations, while their friendship is falling apart. Meanwhile, PK and Mauricio are good friends. What is incredibly interesting is the way that Dorit and Kyle have handled their marital troubles on RHOBH. While Kyle tries to bury the truth, Dorit has embraced it. Let’s take a look at how Dorit Kemsley’s brutal honesty about her separation from PK is refreshing.
Kyle Richards gives RHOBH viewers cryptic clues
Kyle underwent some major changes during Season 13. She was working out all the time and had become sober. The thought of a sober Beverly Hills housewife shocked her fellow cast members. Another interesting change? Kyle was spending tons of time hanging out with musician Morgan Wade. Eventually, Kyle’s friendship with Morgan led to a great deal of speculation about the nature of their relationship.
During Kyle’s infamous weed dinner, Sutton Stracke and Garcelle Beauvais grilled Kyle about why she was wearing a different ring. They also let all the guests know that they suspected that Kyle and Mauricio were having problems.
Naturally, Kyle was furious and admitted that they endured a tough couple of years. But that was as far as she would go. Kyle denied there were problems and instead blasted Sutton for her drinking habits. Ah, deflection! A housewife’s best accessory. As it turns out, Kyle kept her relationship details on a need-to-know basis. Apparently, the RHOBH viewers didn’t need to know.
How did Kyle Richards address her separation from Mauricio Umansky?
During the Season 13 finale, the news broke of Kyle and Mauricio’s separation. The couple’s exchanges over the season were awkward and uncomfortable. Kyle even waved him away from kissing her at one point.
Finally, Mauricio and Kyle sat down with their four daughters and explained that they were taking some time apart. Kyle’s final confessional of the season revealed what viewers were waiting for. She explained why their marriage fell apart, but didn’t dive into specifics.
“I’ve come to realize that, you know, there’s a big chance that we’re not going to end up together,” she said. “There were things that happened that made me lose my trust that I wasn’t able to … recover from.” The duo had been plagued by cheating rumors for years, so this part of Kyle’s story wasn’t a shock.
Plus, at the Season 13 reunion, Kyle admitted that all the infidelity rumors made her “feel insecure.” Yet, she also defended her right to privacy. A fan sent in a question asking Kyle why she didn’t share the reason for the break-up. She responded, “Because it’s nobody’s f*cking business.”
Of course, I understand that reality show cast members don’t owe their fans every detail about their personal lives. However, if you follow a star for 13 seasons, you expect to get a bit more than Kyle gave us.
However, during the Season 14 RHOBH premiere, Kyle seemed to open up more. She shared that she was questioning her sexuality, and she revealed that Mauricio had moved out. Discussing deep, emotional subjects isn’t Kyle’s strength, and I applaud her for finally being vulnerable.
Dorit Kemsley and PK Kemsley face their own marital hurdles
Seasons 12 and 13 were difficult for Dorit and PK. Dorit and their children were victims of a scary home invasion in 2021 while PK was away on business. Thankfully, everyone was safe. As a result of that traumatic event, Dorit was diagnosed with PTSD.
PK wasn’t always supportive of the fashion designer when she was anxious, and he seemed to brush aside her feelings. Dorit finally persuaded PK to attend therapy with her. He stated that some “elements” of Dorit’s PTSD were “obnoxious.” Not very sensitive.
Adding to their marital stress was Dorit’s desire for PK to be home more. “I love my husband, but I just hope, eventually, something can change, because I have moments when I worry,” Dorit said in her Season 13 finale confessional. “Will we be able to stay together?”
Then things took a turn, and Dorit reported at the reunion that PK had stopped drinking. She also indicated that their marriage had improved tremendously. In comparison, Dorit was already sharing more details than Kyle. Unfortunately, the good times didn’t last, and the couple separated just four months later.
Dorit spills the tea about her separation from PK during Season 14 of RHOBH
In a refreshing change of pace, Dorit was open and honest about her marital situation in the Season 14 RHOBH premiere. There were no cryptic comments or furious denials. She just shared her truth.
Dorit confided in Erika Jayne first. She admitted that during the last couple of years, PK had been drinking more and more. The drinking led to increased arguments. “I don’t want that toxic energy around small children,” Dorit said, referencing the couple’s children, Jagger and Phoenix.
Now that PK was sober, the couple decided to separate. There wasn’t any infidelity. In the end, they decided that they just needed space. And Dorit also noted that she had stuck with PK through scandals, such as their financial woes and his DUI arrest in November 2021.
Next, Dorit filled in Kathy Hilton about the state of her relationship with PK. She shared that PK is “a full-blown alcoholic” and he now has a sober coach.
Finally, in a moment of raw vulnerability, Dorit admitted to Kathy that PK initiated the separation. She wanted to meet somewhere in the middle, but with her husband, it is either black or white. Then Dorit outlined her worst-case scenario. The duo will remain besties who successfully co-parent their kids and “we both realize we’re not supposed to be married.” That is sad.
I love how authentic Dorit is this season. Not only about her separation but also about her problems with Kyle. She seems strong and confident, yet she can share her emotions. Dorit’s honesty about her separation from PK is admirable. It is a far cry from Kyle’s approach, and I’m here for it!
