The Chrisley Knows Best clan has had all of their fingers crossed that Julie Chrisley will get out of prison early after her resentencing hearing. However, the prosecutors in the case have a different plan. They’re trying to keep her behind bars for seven years, exactly like her original sentencing. It’s just the latest in the rollercoaster court case that has left their whole family broken.
Julie Chrisley’s freedom is once again on the line
The feds originally sentenced Julie to seven years in prison for her role in a bank fraud and tax evasion scheme. Her hubby, Todd Chrisley, received a 12-year sentence. On top of that, they’re also on the hook for $17 million in restitution.
Earlier this year. Julie scored a major legal win after filing an appeal. A judge felt like the evidence against Julie didn’t show a strong enough timeline of her involvement in the scheme. Unfortunately, the prosecutors in the case have a much different opinion.
According to court records obtained by WSB-TV Atlanta, the feds want to resentence her to seven years in prison. They want to give her the same sentence she already had, meaning the whole resentencing saga was a huge waste of time.
“For resentencing purposes, the government does not intend to introduce new or additional evidence on when Julie joined the bank fraud conspiracy. Instead, the government will proceed on an actual loss amount of $4.7 million—the actual loss incurred after Julie’s real estate company received its first fraudulent loan on July 11, 2007,” the government said in a statement.
“At the first sentencing, the government recommended a within-guidelines sentence; at resentencing, the government will urge the Court to do the same, namely, to re-impose the same 84-month sentence, which is within the new adjusted guidelines range,” the feds explained.
Meanwhile, Julie’s lawyers have expected to see a ton of time shaved off her sentence. At one point, they were predicting she would be home by next summer. Now, it’s looking like that might not be the case, but a judge will determine her fate any day now.
