Mary Cosby’s Full-Time RHOSLC Return May Set a Bad Precedent

Why Mary Cosby full time on RHOSLC is probably not a good idea.

When Bravo revealed that Mary Cosby would be welcomed back with open arms for Season 5, I had thoughts. I don’t find her entertaining as she adds nothing to the episodes she is in, mainly because she chooses not to participate. I don’t like how she has been given a platform to be mean to her co-stars just for the sake of it. Inviting Mary back into the fold is a mistake that I believe is setting a bad precedent for other Real Housewives of Salt Lake City to come.

Mary’s choice to skip the Season 2 reunion came as a bit of a surprise since she had so much to say during the actual season. But it just left me making a mental note that this was yet another Bravo event where God was nowhere to be found. Mary chose to be a no-show because she was scared of being asked questions about the controversies within her parish and church. A source told Page Six, “She was terrified of getting grilled about her ‘racist’ comments made toward Jennie Nguyen and Jen Shah. She also did not want to discuss the accusations that she runs a cult.”

The same insider noted, “Skipping out on the reunion is a big no-no for ‘Housewives. This was the kiss of death for Mary. She hardly has any alliances left in the cast. Many hoped she would have shown up to the reunion to take accountability for her behavior and the allegations about her church.” However, as we know, Mary didn’t get axed and was asked back into the franchise after Jen’s departure. So is Mary our tactical queen, or is she just held to a different standard?

Mary Cosby’s prejudiced comments

What is even more baffling is that Mary’s racially insensitive comments hardly got her a Bravo pause. Let alone a total axing. During a Season 2 episode, Mary was caught lashing out at Jen. Lisa Barlow alleged that Mary was taking money from her church and compared her to Jen. The pastor lost control of her senses and called the convict a “thug.” Mary went on to say, “That’s horrible. It’s not fair to put me with someone like Jen. When I think about Jen, I see heartless, I see a thug. Like, you know, those Mexican people that make all those drugs. To pit me with that?!”

Mary also noted that Jennie had “slanted eyes.” When the one-and-done housewife pointed out how rude the comment was, Mary doubled down, saying, “Really? I love slanted eyes. I didn’t mean any harm by that. Like, for me, it’s a compliment.” Mary had the ability to gloss over her inappropriate sentiments, and for the most part, it seemed Bravo did the same. But on other shows, like Vanderpump Rules, multiple cast members were fired for racist jargon. Yet, Mary has kept her snowflake.

Mary’s lack of participation should have had her kicked off the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City long ago. Yet here she is, continuing to come back. But who knew a Filet-O-Fish was better than a four-star restaurant in Palm Springs? While the cast was at the Trixie Hotel, Whitney put together a drag event, and while almost everyone participated, Mary stood out in the lineup, looking like she does every other day, bored out of her gourd. She didn’t figure out an avant-garde outfit. She didn’t plaster makeup on. And she didn’t seem to be having a good time. Mary refused to get out as the Sprinter van pulled up to a park for trust exercises.

In her own words, “I can’t be standing out in the park in the rain.” Instead, she asked the producers for a hot, oat milk latte with a double shot. On the way to their fancy dinner, Mary decided she would not get out of the van again and demanded that she be taken to McDonald’s. Now, I love some McNuggets, but not instead of a nice meal. Mary just flat-out refused to participate in any of the activities, which led fans to wonder what the purpose of having Mary on the show was anymore. Keeping Mary has set a dangerous precedent for Bravolebs to come, who now might feel they can get away with murder and still earn a paycheck.
