One of the best eras for the Real Housewives of New Jersey was when the Gorgas and Wakiles had a working family relationship. Season 3 introduced Kathy Wakile and her family to viewers. She at the time was close to Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice, but the family feud eventually sucked her in too. Kathy left the series after Season 5 and hasn’t looked back.
I have to admit, I miss watching the Gorga/Giudice/Wakile clan on my screen. The sense of family was what made the Real Housewives of New Jersey such a unique franchise. But any hopes of a reconciliation between the three families seem to be out the window since they can’t see eye to eye. Any olive branch that might have been extended is now being used as a s’mores stick and is roasting over an open flame.
Kathy Wakile has opinions
Fans were surprised to see Kathy, on her Watch What Happens Live appearance, speak out against her cousins. Last week, the 58-year-old roasted the Envy owner about her comments about a possible reconciliation. During her interview, Kathy noted the kind words were “convenient.” Andy Cohen wanted Kathy to confirm if she was moving to the same neighborhood as her cousins. The mother of two responded, “Yes, Melissa Way, because apparently she owns the street. I’ve had my eye on that house forever.”
Andy wasted no time commenting that it would probably be easier if the two families just got along since they would be living in such close proximity. Kathy smiled and said, “Not to be boastful. But watch property is at least an acre to two acres. So you don’t see your neighbor.” Yikes, shots fired.
Melissa Gorga calls back the olive branch
Melissa wasn’t thrilled with the backchat and took to her podcast, On Display, to clap back. Melissa revealed she felt “taken aback” but Kathy’s snide comments. Now Missy G regrets ever extending an olive branch to Kathy and her family, to begin with. The amateur singer said, “I felt like she had a negative flair when asked about us.” The RHONJ star went on to add, “What I had said on Jeff Lewis Live was I thought very nice and very in a way of moving forward in some which way, and it wasn’t like a ‘Hey, I want you on the show’ or ‘I want you back in our lives.’”
Melissa doubled down, explaining, “That wasn’t really what I was saying. I was saying it would be nice if we live on the same street and there are two cousins living on the same street and they bumped into each other it would be really nice to have them talk and work it out and talk it out.”
It’s their loss
Melissa had a lot to say on the subject, adding, “Do I regret saying that after she had that weird attitude on WWHL? It was weird. I think she forgets who said they’re gonna cut the cancer out.” This was a nod to Teresa, having been the one to call her cousin cancer. Melissa went on to say, “Joe did what he had to do, which was support his family. His sister asked him for something and there he was being a good brother and did what he had to do. That’s basically what I was saying to Jeff Lewis on his podcast, like, these are real cousins. And that’s me extending an olive branch.”
Melissa just wanted to get to a safe place with her cousin-in-law in case she bumped into them walking on the street one day. But now Melissa is more annoyed than ever. She ended her rant by saying, “But you know what? Your loss. Stay on your side of the street. All good. I tried to say something nice. I don’t think I liked the attitude. I’m like, it’s weird. We haven’t seen her in a very long time, so I just thought it was a little petty.”
I think it is safe to say that the family feud is still ongoing. While it would be nice to see the Wakiles back on our TV, I doubt that will happen anytime soon—not if Melissa has anything to say about it.
