While reality TV can have a lot of pitfalls, it can also be a boon too! That’s how Josh Altman feels. He has nothing but praise for reality television after Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles helped boost his real estate career.
According to the real estate professional, it’s all about how you use the machine of television. Do your best to use it to your advantage and have it help your business.
Utilize your advantages
“From day one, I was careful about everything I did,” Josh told US Weekly. “Because I realized that if you use television correctly, it can be the greatest marketing tool in the world for your business.”
He added, “And if you do it correctly, it can catapult your business to a whole other level that would take most people a lifetime.”
And that makes sense. Being on a show like Million Dollar Listing has definitely helped give Josh a leg up in the competitive real estate market. Especially in LA, where reputation is everything. Because of his time on the show, Josh has been exposed to a wider audience. This has made it easier to secure new clients and handle high-priority listings.
And he is not one to waste the opportunity. He has put a lot of work into building his career and doesn’t take anything for granted. After all, he had previously enjoyed some self-made success before the economy collapsed in 2007. He lost everything.
“I was self-made, and I had everything taken away from me. So when they offered me the show, I actually thought about it probably a lot longer and harder than most people would,” Josh shared.
“Every move, I thought it out a million different ways,” he explained. “Really, what it came down to — the No. 1 thing in the world — is to let everyone know what you do for a living. And what better way to do that than through everyone’s TV screens?
So much more than success
While Josh’s transition to reality TV wasn’t easy, it was worth it. He has gotten so much more than a boost to his career.
“The best part about the show was I got to meet my wife on a show. I got to get engaged on a show, married on a show, the birth of my children on a show,” Josh said. “That’s all the special stuff for me.”
