After 40 seasons of The Challenge, you would think the production behind the scenes would run like a well-oiled machine. Half of the time, it’s the same handful of contestants showing up to do what they’ve been doing for years, but apparently, it’s not all smooth sailing. Ahead of the new season, Jordan Wiseley just threw some major accusations at the production.
According to Jordan, filming Season 40 might have been one of his worst experiences yet. We’re just weeks away from the premiere of the biggest season of the Challenge ever, but now, Jordan has us distracted wondering about what really went on behind the scenes.
Jordan got some things off his chest
Obviously, The Challenge is a pretty physically demanding show. However, Jordan claimed that behind the scenes, they weren’t treated like high-performing athletes. Instead, he claimed production treated them poorly, fed them garbage, and pushed the contestants through an all-around negative experience. If you thought filming Love is Blind came with crappy conditions, Jordan made the pods sound like a walk in the park in comparison.
“When I say “a challenge house is one of the worst environments to be in” I’m not exaggerating,” Jordan wrote on Instagram. “This one was by far the worst treatment we’ve ever received as a cast and it’s taken a toll (more on that later).”
In the accompanying video, Jordan vented even more about the subpar filming conditions. Although the show requires a great deal of athleticism, he said the contestants end up “losing shape” when they’re competing. Some of us are “losing shape” every single day, but for Jordan, this felt like a big deal.
“Most people think that we come into a Challenge house and we just work out all the time and turn into savages,” Jordan explained on IG. “No, the entire time you’re in there, you are losing shape. We are treated like sh-t, we sleep like sh-t, we are fed like sh-t, our schedules are dog sh-t, 20-hour days like nothing.”
Adding even more fuel to these accusations, several of Jordan’s castmates commented on his post agreeing with him. Mattie Lynn Breaux cosigned that it was “the worst.” Theo Campbell jumped in claiming that he couldn’t even get a pair of shoes that fit when filming the show. Seriously, MTV?
On Instagram, Jordan suggested that there was even more to the story that would come at a later date. When he’s ready to talk, we’re all ears.
The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras premieres Wednesday, August 14 at 8/7c on MTV.
