Below Deck Down Under and Vanderpump Rules Earn Emmy Nominations

Two of my Bravo favorites received nominations for the 2024 Emmys. Vanderpump Rules and Below Deck Down Under were both nominated in the Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program category.

Pump Rules scored the nomination for the second year in a row.

The two Bravo shows are up against Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum, MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked, and FX’s Welcome to Wrexham.

Sexual dramas drive both stories

VPR made headlines in March 2023 when Ariana Madix’s long-term boyfriend, Tom Sandoval, was caught in an affair with their close friend Rachel Leviss. The ensuing drama engaged not only the three people involved but the entire cast, as everybody chose sides. The turmoil continued into Season 11, as some cast members reconciled with Tom, while Ariana refused to interact with him.

Pump Rules is currently on an extended hiatus. Bravo has yet to announce its fate or whether there will even be another season. Normally, the show films over the summer, but for the first time in its history, they’re not filming this year, which is a bad sign for the show.

On Below Deck Down Under, a quick-acting camera crew helped avert a potential sexual assault in Season 2. After an alcohol-soaked crew night out, bosun Luke Jones attempted to crawl naked into stew Margot Sisson’s bunk. Margot was passed out drunk at the time, so the crew moved quickly to return Luke to his own room. Chief Stew Aesha Scott reported the situation to Captain Jason Chambers, who immediately removed Luke from the boat. The bosun was fired the next day.

Congratulations to Bravo on both nominations. It’s too bad they’re in the same category and will compete against each other, reducing both shows’ chances of winning.

Both Below Deck Down Under and Vanderpump Rules are streaming on Peacock.
