Sarah Becker, a Real World Miami alum, has died by suicide. Sarah loved her comic books and her skateboard, the latter of which was her preferred method of transportation on MTV. Sadly though, the real Real World threw several challenges Sarah’s way post filming. Now, her death is another reminder to us all, prompting us to check in on our loved ones while we can. Because what the (real) world needs now, is love, sweet love.
Rest easy, Sarah
TMZ confirmed the news of Sarah’s passing first, via one of Sarah’s family members. This source revealed that Sarah passed away in the earlier days of last week while staying at her family’s home in Illinois. She’d moved there temporarily just last year, to help take care of her family. She was, however, planning on moving back to California at some point in the future.
In addition, TMZ also became aware of Sarah’s mental health struggles as of late. From taking care of an ailing mother and her sister, in addition to a skateboarding accident, Sarah had not been feeling her best. And now, the world is all the dimmer in her absence.
To date, a few of Sarah’s former MTV costars have spoken out on her passing, such as Flora Alekseyeva. “She was the most selfless person I knew. She was always kind and helpful to everyone. I haven’t spoken to her in years and never knew she was troubled. My prayers go out to her family. RIP my roommate, my friend. May you skate with angels and never feel pain again,” Flora penned.
Likewise, Dan Renzi also acknowledged Sarah’s passing, noting that they had lost touch after filming ceased. “I can only say, it’s very sad,” he shared. In her stories, Cynthia Roberts wrote “I pray there’s happiness for you on the other side.”
As do we. For any of our readers who might also feel like all hope is lost, hang on, because we here at Reality Tea are glad that you are here. Your story matters, and help is possible.
