In a world where marriages can fall apart after just 24 hours, a 27-year marriage is quite impressive indeed. For Meredith Marks, who has been married to Seth Marks for over two decades, the secret is really very simple.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star was recently seen on a date night with the hubby at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in Brooklyn, New York. Meredith and Seth made a striking pair and even shared a kiss on the red carpet.
Communication is key
What’s Meredith’s secret to keeping the marriage going strong?
“No. 1 is communication,” Meredith told PEOPLE. That’s her simple and straightforward tip for a successful marriage. “As soon as that goes everything else follows.”
Mer previously spoke about her and Seth and their decades-long marriage. The couple share three children – Reid, Chloe, and Brooks. However, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for them.
She easily acknowledges the ups and downs they’ve experienced as a couple since their 1996 wedding. The pair were even briefly separated during the first season of the RHOSLC.
Meredith revealed another major bump in the road for the couple. This was when she previously asked for a postnuptial agreement 15 years into the marriage. It was important to her because divorce was not favorable for women in Utah. It wasn’t about the money but more about custody of their children.
“I think all relationships are somewhat perpetually hanging by a thread,” she said. “But it’s interesting working together. We spend a huge amount of time together already just because we travel so much, and a lot of times, he’s working in the same space.”
Close proximity may give couples something else to argue about, but Meredith noted that these are usually minor and nothing that commitment and communication can’t help solve.
