Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist shocked the nation when announcing their divorce. Fans saw them grow close on The Golden Bachelor, which snowballed into a wedding event special on ABC.
But when news of the divorce came out, ABC and the House of Mouse were probably eager to hide under a blanket. One has to wonder to what extent the broadcasting corporation pushed the couple together before they were ready. Nevertheless, the marriage happened, and the couple made their divorce plans public soon after.
At the time, Gerry told fans, “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.” That was that. And the process goes on.
Golden Bachelor couple Gerry and Theresa had “irreconcilable differences” leading to divorce
On June 13, Entertainment Tonight revealed exclusive information obtained from court documents. The docs showed that Gerry and Theresa struck a divorce settlement on June 4 in Indiana’s Pike Circuit Court. The nine-page document acknowledged the marriage date, January 4, 2024.
However, the docs also revealed that the couple “lived together as husband and wife until April 12, 2024, at which time certain irreconcilable differences heretofore arisen between the parties culminated in their separation.” As to what these irreconcilable differences were? We can only speculate.
But whatever issues there may have been, they were indeed settled. Theresa and Gerry reportedly entered into a written agreement, confirming that they sorted out the contested issues that arose from the dissolution of marriage. Both parties also requested to waive a final hearing. As such, the court will enter the dissolution decree as such and streamline the divorce.
The Golden Bachelor is streaming on Disney+, with The Golden Bachelorette coming later this year on ABC.
