We all heard those rumors about Susan Lucci possibly being the lead on The Golden Bachelorette. Apparently, there was actually some truth to them. According to Susan, ABC did ask her about participating in the show. She turned it down. That’s good news for Joan Vassos, but bad news for anyone who was hoping to see an iconic daytime actress have a shot at reality TV love.
No interest in joining Bachelor Nation
The surprising revelation came during an interview with People, where Susan opened up about her brush with The Golden Bachelorette’s casting team. She’s been open about her love for Bachelor Nation, but being a part of it is a different story.
“I believe that they contacted my publicist and it wasn’t for me,” Susan confirmed.
“It wasn’t for me, but I do love watching,” she continued. “I’m a fan. I love watching.”
Watching The Bachelor and living the Bachelor are two very different things, so kudos to Susan for knowing her limit. Plus, she’s probably a little too famous for a show like this. When talking to People about her history with the show, she said that her assistant was the one who actually got her hooked a few seasons.
“My assistant told me she was going home to watch The Bachelor with her daughters,” Susan recalled. “She said, ‘Well, it’s really good.'”
It turns out, the assistant was right. Now, Susan is hooked. She called the show one of her “guilty pleasures,” and she said she “really enjoyed” watching Gerry Turner try to find love on the Golden Bachelor. It’s safe to say that this fall, she’ll be tuned into ABC like the rest of us, watching Joan as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.
