It’s all happening! ABC just announced that they’ve selected the leading lady for the first season of The Golden Bachelorette. It’s 61-year-old Joan Vassos!
If you watched Golden Bachelor, then you probably remember Joan. Gerry Turner seemed into her, but then in Week 3, she left the competition to be with her daughter who was giving birth. Grandma duty called, and she had to answer.
Now, she’s getting her second shot at love as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette!
Your first Golden Bachelorette
ABC confirmed the news via Instagram in a fabulous video showing Joan strutting in a glistening gold dress, picking up a rose. She’s literally glowing. Or, maybe that’s a filter. Either way, she looks great, and she’s ready for her chance at finding reality TV love.
Joan hails from Maryland, and according to People, she previously worked as a private school administrator before joining the reality TV world. She has four kids and two grandkids. In 2021, she lost her husband of 32 years to pancreatic cancer. Thus, she went to The Golden Bachelor with an open heart.
Of course, now that we know who the Golden Bachelorette is, that means we have to stop all of the casting speculation. For months, there were rumors that Susan Lucci could be a part of the show. Plus, there were a handful of Golden Bachelor alums vying for the role. Everyone wanted the chance to have a bunch of silver foxes vying for their affection.
Alas, ABC landed with Joan. Since her Golden Bachelor journey got cut short, she’s a great pick. We’re just keeping our fingers crossed that things turn out better for Joan than they did for Gerry. We can’t handle another golden divorce.
There’s no official premiere date set for Golden Bachelorette, but ABC confirmed it would air on Wednesdays this fall with 90-minute episodes. Keep your eyes peeled for more details.
