Going into Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, everyone knew that the cast would be divided because of Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga’s neverending feud. But, when we learned that Margaret Josephs and Jackie Goldschneider were no longer aligned, that just didn’t sit right. That’s a friendship breakup nobody saw coming.
Unfortunately, it’s true, and in the Season 14 RHONJ premiere, we saw just a glimpse of the weird energy between the former friends. Then, in an episode of Access Hollywood’s Housewives Nightcap, Margaret revealed more details on their falling out. She had one word to describe her former friend: disappointing.
Why Marge felt ‘disappointed’ by Jackie
During the premiere, Marge and Jackie had an icy interaction about Jackie’s book. Margaret felt slighted that Melissa got an advance copy when she didn’t. According to Margaret, that was just a teeny bit of the issue with Jackie. It turns out, Margaret already felt like she didn’t receive enough support from Jackie after the sudden passing of Jan Josephs, Margaret’s ex-husband.
Margaret explained that all of the girls reached out to her and tried to be supportive while she was mourning. Even Teresa reached out. Although Margaret admitted that she did hear from Jackie, it sounded like it just wasn’t the level of support that she expected.
“Unfortunately, Jackie really disappointed me. She was very, very disappointing,” Margaret revealed. “If it’s not happening on Instagram for her, it’s not happening in real life – and Instagram’s not real life.”
Yikes. That would explain the friendship breakup a little bit more than feeling upset about not getting an early copy of The Weight of Beautiful. Still, Margaret gave the Housewives Nightcap crew an earful about the book issue. Allegedly, Margaret helped set Jackie up with the book deal, so she felt especially slighted that she didn’t get the early copy.
The book debacle
“I had given her my entire press list for her to send [the book] to people,” Margaret recalled.
She continued, “I purchased the advance copy on Amazon. I’m going to support her, but I thought it was weird, and it felt like she was trying to stick it to me.”
Looking back on the scene with Melissa and Jackie when the book topic came up, Margaret said the whole thing seemed “bizarre.” She felt “hurt” by how Jackie tried to gatekeep access to the book. Hilariously, Marge said that Jackie was acting as if Melissa was some prestigious press outlet like “the New York Times.”
Ultimately, Marge felt like it shouldn’t have been that difficult to get an advanced copy. She felt like she should have been among the first of the RHONJ cast to receive it. When you add on the Jan situation, it starts to become a little bit clearer why these two are on ice. But, if there’s one thing about RHONJ, it’s that there’s always more to the story. There’s probably more to this one, too.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs new episodes Sunday nights on Bravo at 8/7c.
