Even though it’s been well over a year since Tom Sandoval cheated on Ariana Madix, The Valley star Janet Caperna just can’t get past it.
Janet knows most of the cast of Vanderpump Rules through her friend Scheana Shay. The pair have been friends since Janet moved to LA seven years ago.
The new mom, who calls herself “Vanderpump Adjacent,” has some strong feelings about Scheana’s friendship with Tom. She’s not ready to forgive him for the affair with Rachel Leviss, and she wants Scheana to pump the brakes on her friendship with him.
Janet can’t get past the “ick” of it all
While admitting that Scheana is “an awesome friend,” Janet says it was “tough” to see her walking the tightrope between Tom and Ariana. She watched Scandoval play out in real-time and still struggles to forgive him for the way he blindsided his girlfriend of a decade.
“[Scheana] is very forgiving,” Janet told The Daily Dish. “She tries to give everybody a chance at all times, and I love her for that because if you make a mistake, Scheana’s not going to write you off ... That being said, I have a hard time forgiving Tom Sandoval.”
“I was around Ariana, Tom, and [Rachel] a lot before everything broke,” confessed the former executive assistant. “When we found out what was going on behind closed doors, it was really icky to me.”
Janet’s husband, Jason Caperna, claims to have once been “really good” friends with Tom but hasn’t spoken to him in nearly a year. “I honestly don’t want to,” Jason says. His loyalty lies with Ariana, and he understands her feelings that her friends should not be friends with Tom.
“Generally speaking, I am a person who likes to bridge gaps between people,” Jason adds. “But with Ariana and Tom, I’m like, you know what? What he did, to me, is just at [another] level … If Ariana doesn’t want to be around him and she doesn’t want her friends around him, I totally get it.”
Janet questions Scheana’s boundaries
While Janet and Jason are clear about where they stand with Sandoval, she understands that not everybody can create such definable boundaries. She understands that Scheana is struggling.
“[But] I wouldn’t change Scheana being a forgiving person for anything,” she says. “I just wish, in this instance, maybe it would be different.”
In Pump Rules Season 11 Episode 13, Tom accused Scheana of thinking she’s the “biggest victim” in the feud between him and Ariana. He then brought up Scheana’s cheating scandal with Eddie Cibrian, who was married to Brandi Glanville at the time. Scheana was furious the Schwartz and Sandy’s owner called her “the other woman.”
“It infuriated the sh*t out of me,” Scheana said at the time. “I’m just like, what the f*ck is wrong with you?”
“After seeing last night’s episode,” Janet said, “where he’s like, ‘Oh, we’re the same. You also were participating in an affair,’ I was like, ‘Scheana, how can you forgive this guy?’”
Janet won’t be forgiving Tom anytime soon.
