Jill Zarin Defends Below Deck Appearance and Tip: ‘I Was Starving’

Jill Zarin perhaps made the worst decision possible when she chose to join Below Deck Season 11 as a charter guest. The former Real Housewives of New York star already had a reputation of being a bit … outlandish.

Things became insurmountably worse for Jill after Below Deck. Among the things that rubbed viewers the wrong way: Jill instructed the stews on how to clean the bathrooms; she ordered sushi even though her friend (the primary) couldn’t have raw fish; and she suggested the crew respond to the sound of a bell.

Jill called the whole experience “a total disaster.” On the bright side, in a moment of common ground, the crew could probably agree that their time with Jill was disastrous. So, how did Jill defend her actions?

Jeff Lewis comes to Jill’s defense over Below Deck

On his SiriusXM show, Jeff Lewis interviewed Jill, discussing her time on Below Deck. He began by offering some sympathy toward Jill, saying he was also “high maintenance” on vacation. Jill then gave a breakdown of the financials, saying she’d paid $45,000, a built-in pre-tip, and an additional tip of $6,000. She called this additional tip “stupid” in hindsight.

She continued, “We gave a $ 10,000-a-day tip for eight people. So, her meal, it came to like, $2,000 per person, per day, per meal. And we didn’t eat two meals, as you saw on the show. Lunch was a disaster … and dinner was a disaster.” After mentioning the chef’s firing, she said, “If I was a little cranky, well, it could be because I was starving.”

Jill added, “I kept on asking for an apple or a piece of fruit and nobody would give me any.” Jeff said that, having known Jill, he understood where she was coming from. He acknowledged, however, that the average viewer would not see her offers of advice in a productive light. He also said that since Jill was paying upwards of $60,000, she had the right to be entitled.

Below Deck Season 11 continues Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
