Dancing with the Stars professional Gleb Savchenko has explained why he’s glad Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay didn’t appear on DWTS last season, following her admission she had always wanted to do the show. It might not be what she wants to hear, but he does have some valid points.
Gleb wasn’t being shady. Instead, he doesn’t believe Scheana would’ve been afforded “the same chance” as her Pump Rules costar, Ariana Madix. It’s a fair observation.
“I’m not saying bad things about her. I think Scheana is amazing. I really like her. She’s an awesome girl and everything,” he told The U.S. Sun. But as my memory calls, I didn’t think she had a lot of dance experience. That’s what I’m trying to say,” he further explained.
DWTS’ Gleb has history with Scheana
In referencing his “memory,” Gleb is calling back to the time he choreographed Scheana’s first dance for her wedding to ex-husband, Mike Shay. The pair got married in July 2014, in California. They later divorced in April 2017.
He did, perhaps inadvertently, diss Scheana, in saying that “maybe she’s improved” with her dancing, and “got much better now.”
As for any other celebs that want to go on DWTS? “You should start taking classes,” he warned. “People think, ‘Oh, yeah, we’ll just chill for a couple of hours in the dance studio. I’m going to hang out with this handsome dude who has got a Russian access, and he’ll be smiling.”
That’s not the case. “You’re coming in and I’m turning on my Russian dictatorship and being like, ‘Okay, straighten those knees. Let’s go,'” Gleb quipped.
Scheana had opened up to Lisa Vanderpump about her DWTS dreams. In an episode earlier this season of VPR, she said, “This year I started taking dance classes. I was preparing in case, you know, I did get it.” Then, when she found out Ariana would be on the show, it was “kind of a punch to the gut,” despite being “so happy” for her friend.
Dancing with the Stars is expected to return to ABC later this year, while Vanderpump Rules continues Tuesday nights at 8/7c on Bravo.
