How The Valley and Vanderpump Villa Will Save Pump Rules

When Vanderpump Rules premiered in 2013, it was a saving grace for the network, which was focused on its Real Housewives at the time. The group of WeHo servers launched onto our TVs with their petty drama, cheating ways, and love for goat cheese balls. But over the years, the SUR staff has lost a bit of its pizazz.

After the fallout of Scandoval, the face of VPR has really changed. What was once a fun, lighthearted show that consisted of boys will be boys mentality is now being called out for not protecting the women and allowing a toxic workplace. Frankly, Vanderpump Rules is on its last legs. However, The Valley is looking to change the narrative. It shows that some OGs can grow up and prioritize more than nights out. Vanderpump Villa is also trying to add a classy touch as it takes place out of the country. It feels that these two new spinoffs are going to remind fans why they fell in love with VPR in the first place.

We’ve reached peak Vanderpump

I don’t think I would have ever thought that Lisa Vanderpump would be given three spinoff shows after quitting Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. But she’s having the last laugh as she prepares for another two shows that will bear her name.

Thanks to Scandoval, fans are no longer in love with the series’ premise or some of its stars. But who knew I needed more Jax Taylor back on my screen? Jax is back in full swing as he tries to establish the fact that he is the number one guy in the group. Instead, what has occurred so far is Jax pantsing his friend, upsetting his wife, and telling Kristen Doute she shouldn’t have kids. The trip down memory lane serves up nostalgia at its finest when Vanderpump Rules was in its heyday.

But Bravo hasn’t strayed so far from the boys’ club premise as The Valley almost feels like it is based on the unequal division of household labor. Or, for those who need translations, the men will play while the women slay (kind of). The ladies of The Valley are home with the kids while the men attempt to play hockey. But even with the division of the sexes, it is already heads above Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules.

Bonjour, Vanderpump Villa

Not to be left out, Hulu green-lit Vanderpump Villa. It’s set in France with a whole new set of staff. As they say, out with the old and in with the new! My intuition is already telling me that this series won’t be wildly successful. But if you’re looking to recapture the old feel of Vanderpump Rules, this is the closest you’ll get. The premise is close to the SUR formula with a young group of workers who work together and hook up. Already, I see a Jax/Stassi feeling relationship between Marciano Brunette and Emily Kovacs.

Vanderpump Villa will undoubtedly attract a younger audience and most likely get them hooked. Then they’ll binge-watch VPR and The Valley. A whole new generation will now say, “I’m not really sure what I’ve done to you, but I’ll take a Pinot Grigio.” If both spinoffs are successful, I could see VPR given one more season.

TELL US – DO YOU THINK VANDERPUMP RULES WILL BE SAVED, OR IS IT TIME TO GO OFF THE AIR?
