Well, we didn’t see this coming. Less than 24 hours after The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 8 finale, Candiace Dillard Bassett has announced her exit from the show. Perhaps most surprisingly, she claimed this was her own decision and not Bravo’s.
Candiace says farewell to the Real Housewives
People first reported the news, which arrived after a lackluster Season 8 which saw most of the women refusing to get along. Candiace couldn’t let go of her issues with Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon. The Green-Eyed Bandits weren’t budging either. Sadly, these ladies couldn’t even pretend to like each other.
Most RHOP fans were hoping for some sort of resolution at the reunion. In the trailer, Andy Cohen made it very clear that he wanted each of the women to find a path forward. The fact that Candiace confirmed her exit before the reunion aired might suggest that she couldn’t find said path. But, despite the constant negativity on the show, Candiace had nothing but positive things to say in her exit statement.
“As I embark on a new chapter after six remarkable years with The Real Housewives of Potomac, I am filled with gratitude for the enriching friendships, personal growth and moments of introspection that have defined this journey,” Candiace said.
She continued, “With a whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities on my plate, I have decided to take a break from RHOP.”
It’s not clear what she’s referring to with these new opportunities and responsibilities, but she previously hinted that she was hoping to focus on her music career full-time. We wish her the best of luck with that. While we wait to see what’s next for Candiace, she noted that her RHOP departure might be more of a pause.
Candiace teased, “This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you later.’ “
