Another Bravolebrity mugshot may be coming soon – this time, it’s Karen Huger of The Real Housewives of Potomac.
Earlier this week, the “Grande Dame of Potomac” crashed her Maserati in grande fashion. Luckily, she only walked away with some bumps and bruises. No one else was hurt. The car didn’t fare so well.
Karen released a statement the next day and blamed her heightened emotional state as a catalyst leading her to crash. She also mentioned that she received some citations. However, she left out that one of those citations was for driving under the influence. Of course, the news got out.
Karen crashed into a median and some signs before ending up on the side of the road
A Montgomery County, MD Police rep told TMZ that Karen was driving a 2017 Maserati in Potomac late Tuesday night. Allegedly, she was driving aggressively and faster than she should’ve, given the conditions.
According to the report, Karen collided with a median and a crosswalk sign at an intersection before continuing and careening into a parking sign off the road, where her car finally stopped. The impacts were enough for her airbags to deploy.
Karen promptly gave a statement, but left out the part where she was cited for DUI
The Grande Dame reached out to TMZ to offer a statement after the news of her crash broke.
It read, “Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience. I am still in shock from last night’s incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mother’s Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami.”
“Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider, and then a tree. I’m hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive! I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!”
Karen finished, adding, “I would like to stress, it’s important to understand your emotional state when driving, and may this be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts, my Mother may be my Guardian Angel but the seatbelt saved my life.”
A few hours later, TMZ obtained court documents showing that Karen was slapped with a DUI, for which she’ll have to appear in court. This is in addition to her other citations for negligent and reckless driving, driving at high speed, and driving with a suspended registration.
If the DUI charges are true, this was one grande, dumb decision from the Grande Dame. Have we learned nothing from Shannon Beador?
