The behind-the-scenes drama at Queer Eye continues. Now, Tan France wants people to know that he’s not the villain in the story, and he didn’t get one of his co-stars fired so his friend could join the show.
In case you missed it, Bobby Berk left the show. A few days ago, Netflix announced Jeremiah Brent as his replacement. Coincidentally, he’s a friend of Tan’s. Then, sources behind the scenes started spilling tea about infighting within the Fab Five.
Insiders claimed that Jonathan Van Ness had been running around yelling at people daily. They also alleged Tan secretly campaigned to get Bobby replaced with his friend Jeremiah. Now, Tan is speaking out on Instagram and trying to clear his name of any wrongdoing.
Tan’s friend is joining Queer Eye
According to Tan, the rumors about him campaigning for Jeremiah started from a “gossip blog.” Where most people saw them was when they were reported by Rolling Stone in the exposé about JVN and the alleged “mean girl” antics going on behind the scenes of the show. Tan tried to set the record straight, claiming that he had nothing to do with it.
“My former colleague getting fired had nothing to do with my friend getting hired. Netflix and the production companies did a full-on casting,” Tan alleged.
He continued, “I didn’t prop my friend up for the job. They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job.”
Tan continued to say how he thinks Jeremiah will be “incredible” on the show. However, he was adamant that he didn’t help Jeremiah secure the job by “getting rid of somebody else.” According to Tan, Jeremiah got the job the old-fashioned way.
Reading between the lines
Here at Reality Tea, we are experts on shade, and there was a hint of it in Tan’s Instagram video. He claimed that Bobby got “fired” from Queer Eye. That’s not what Bobby said about his exit from the show.
When Bobby left the show, he claimed that he exited on his own because he thought the show was ending. Bobby made it seem like he felt blindsided when he found out the rest of the cast decided to sign on for another season. He thought Season 8 was everyone’s last.
“We thought we were done,” Bobby shared in a recent interview. “I thought we all moved on. I know I did, and I started planning other things.”
So, now we have three sides of the story: Bobby’s, Tan’s, and the insiders who were interviewed by Rolling Stone. Regardless of who you choose to believe, the picture-perfect façade the Queer Eye cast built for eight seasons has cracked in a matter of weeks. Perhaps some of the other Queer Eye guys would like to weigh in and set the record straight?
