Lala Kent is booked and busy with her podcast, being on Vanderpump Rules, her cosmetic line, and her daughter. Lala shares Ocean Kent with her ex-fiancé, Randall Emmett.
Their split was the epitome of messy and bitter. Lala wanted to give Ocean a sibling, but she wanted to be a solo parent. “Like, I am so scarred from all of this sh*t that has happened in my life. I don’t want another person involved,” Lala explained.
Well, Lala had some exciting news to share. She announced that she was expecting! Time to break out your baby bottles. Ocean is going to be a big sister.
How did Lala choose her sperm donor?
Lala discussed her journey to motherhood on her podcast, Give Them Lala. “I got my donor through the California Cryobank. Only 10 percent of women who go into the California Cryobank to seek out a donor because they want to do parenthood on their own, there’s only 10 percent of people who, like me, who are like, ‘I just want a child and I need a donor,’” Lala explained.
So, what attributes was Lala looking for in a sperm donor? According to Lala, “looks were probably the lowest on the totem pole for me.” She continued, “And I hate to say it, but I also didn’t need them to be extremely smart because I’m not.” Well, that is an interesting choice.
Lala didn’t see a photo of the donor, but she asked about his looks. “I did say, ‘What does he look like?’ Because I feel like this baby — and we live in Los Angeles, so that’s great — but the outside world is funny. Not everybody is as progressive as we are,” Lala said. “And I just felt like, ‘OK, I’m bringing this baby into the world because I so badly want it to be here. But I also want to eliminate as many questions as I possibly can.’”
She hoped that the donor would “have this same aesthetic look as me, my mom, Ocean.” Lala added, “The world is already tough when you come from a totally normal family. I don’t want to make it any tougher for them.”
And there was an interesting thread between the donor and Ocean. Lala shared that his favorite poem and song “both had to do with the ocean.” That is cool!
The first time was the charm
Meanwhile, Lala wasn’t exactly prepared to become pregnant so quickly. She was successful with her first round of intrauterine insemination, also known as IUI. During this medical procedure, the sperm is inserted into the uterus.
“I just could not fathom that I was having a second baby on try one. I thought I had a little bit more time to sink into like [becoming a mom again],” Lala stated.
Congratulations to Lala and Ocean!
Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules continues on Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
