Why It’s So Hard To Be Friends With Erika Jayne

Erika Jayne joined the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills during Season 6, and the series has never been the same. The Pretty Mess singer portrayed herself a bit differently back then. She presented herself as Erika Girardi, Tom Girardi’s wife. She was mostly demure, softer spoken, and stayed in line for fear of the lawyer’s reprisal. But fans always felt that Erika had major walls guarding her true self. So, we never really got the vibe that she would be easy to befriend.

Sadly, for the past two seasons, it has felt like Erika has been playing into an act that she will probably play into forever in order to try and distance herself from her husband and from being held fully accountable for any of her actions. The most worrying thing about Erika is she knows how to read a room. So, no matter what is going on, I don’t believe you could grow a genuine friendship because she would always be one calculating step ahead of you. I’m almost afraid to admit that her therapy moment was actually the most genuine I’ve ever found her to be. Quite frankly, it sent chills down my entire spine.

Erika Thinks Everyone Is Fake

Erika is extremely guarded when it comes to letting people in, and due to this trait, she often assumes most people around her have false intentions. After separating from her husband of 21 years, Erika thought she was surrounded by fake friends. Erika has a terrible mindset of “if you’re not with me, you’re against me,” and people like this are really hard to befriend. Everything is their way or the highway as they often catastrophize their life.

The Ice Queen Cometh

In my opinion, Erika always came off as trying too hard to impress. Between the glam squad and alter ego of Erika Jayne, you just never knew who you were going to get. As the seasons went on, she became the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ resident ice queen, often thinking she was better than her co-stars. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that?

If anyone was trying to be her best friend, it would have really difficulty to make a lasting connection. You would most probably feel like you are doing all the work for little gain.

Erika is Ambitious

It’s expensive to be Erika, and what she lacks in with warmth, she makes up with intent. When it comes to having a friendship with someone who has extreme goals, sometimes you end up getting left behind. I could see Erika pushing forward at the expense of those around her. You would have to be lucky to be in her inner, inner circle and those spots seemed to be reserved for her glam team. I understand wanting to succeed and make a name for yourself, but not at the expense of good friendship.

Erika Lacks Empathy

I truly believe that the hardest part of being Erika’s friend is her inability to empathize or sympathize. When it comes to having a best friend, you want someone who you can confide in and trust with your deepest thoughts. I fear if anyone tried to bond with Erika, all they would get is a blank stare back from her dead eyes. Erika admitting on screen that she didn’t know what empathy was or how to feel it was terrifying and should be a red flag for anyone who is close friends with her.

Erika Isn’t a Girls Girl

In her early days, Erika once made a comment about not bonding with women well, noting to the ladies that they should “Be the woman you wish other women had been to you.” I found this line of thinking quite strange. In general, women who have trouble forming close relationships with other women as a result of their own insecurities often claim men make better friends. And let me tell you ladies like this I am extremely wary of. I think Erika is threatened by any other strong female presence, which is why she had problems with anyone who doesn’t kowtow to her.

The bottom line when it comes to a friendship with Erika is you will probably never be put first and often thought of last. If that is the kind of friend you want, then Erika is the right one for you. If not, it’s best to keep looking.
